Blame me, your loyal devoted mean night nurse, I can take it.

And I advise that hard-hearted stance even though I know exactly how scrumptious, tasty, addictively delicious bacon fat is, to say nothing of how good things taste when they are cooked with bacon fat. I don’t have it in the house for that very reason. I’d be cooking everything in it, as well as drizzling melted bacon fat on Moxie’s kibble. Both of us (and hubby) will live longer if I don’t. Of course I ravenously fall on bacon a couple times a year on my fast food cheeseburger or on the 2 or 3 times a year my SiL cooks bacon when I’m there. Probably a total of 6-8 servings a year. I wish Glade made a bacon-scented plug-in, sigh…

If he absolutely has have some bacon or die, once a month buy a package of already fully cooked bacon and portion that out over several meals. At least that way the fat have been rendered out of it and won’t be there to tempt him nor will there be a pan of drippings to be resisted. Yes, I know it’s seemingly lots more expensive but that ends up in your favor by encouraging restraint and portion control. Fully precooked bacon may seem expensive but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than a heart attack or more bypass surgeries in the other coronary arteries.

Well, I did cop to mean, cold-hearted and hard-hearted didn’t I? Might as well keep GG’s breeders phone number and website address handy too for the first time he cancels or tries to delay or weasel out of a doctors appt.

Evenin’. Snowmageddon has still yet to materialise, but I just noticed the town I used to live in at the ‘mild’ end of the country now has a snow warning… C’mon. We’re supposed to be the snowy end, we even have little mini driveable grit spreaders for paths up here, we’re all ready for it, down there they go into panic mode at the first flake.

I’ve hopefully got the car situation sorted- someone’s supposed to be picking up the crap car Friday. It can sit in the staff car park at work until then. Driving the new one has definitely made me realise how bad it was… I’m hoping it’s decently robust, because I don’t want to go through the car hunting hassle again any time soon, but it’s soooo much nicer to drive than the previous one.

Did very little today but get confused by the online ordering system at irk, it just kept coming up with error messages that no-one else has ever seen before, and it looks like the person from finance who normally deals with such things isn’t back yet. It’s not crazy urgent, but still, frustrating.

I’m in the Antelope Valley we get snow every 10-15 years which is strange because I live 45-90 minutes from the SoCal ski areas.

Still, we know when it snows up in them thar hills cause its cold as hell when the wind blows … tho for us were having a warmer than usual winter …in a week or two our winter is usually over, and its the few weeks long rainy season if we get any this year …

Last week Kroger had it for $1.49 with digital coupon, this week you only need a Kroger card to buy 8 cans for $1.29 @. Next week it could be back up to full price, who knows? So, I decided to take an inventory. We have 28 cans in the basement and 16 cans in the kitchen cupboard. So, we don’t need any for ourselves. However, I’m going to buy the 8 cans and donate it to the food pantry.

**nellie** I truly hope that the threat of eviction is enough to lower the decibels coming from your neighbor. But I have a question. IIRC you have had noise issues with the upstairs neighbor and the next door neighbor. Which neighbor is it that management threatened? Has the other neighbor voluntarily reduced their noise level?

Second.
The gentleman who was the Assistant Finance Director who hired me at my last FT position, frequented the YMCA shortly after he retired.. Apparently he had a heart attack while he was swimming in the deep end. No LG on duty. He drowned. I was very sad.

Spent some time in the secret room. Then started to take decorations off the trees in the lobby. As we will be getting new lights for next year, some chair had the bright idea to take the old off the trees. Thankfully I was joined by 2 neighbours. The lights are crazy wrapped around the branches.

I was stunned to realize this must have been done at factory. The huge amounts of plugs into plugs onto plugs would indicate otherwise. After 3 hours we have about half a tree de-lighted.

The rest will be done bit by bit as time permits until it is all done.

In other news the new lobby chairs have arrived at the receiver and will be stain coated and delivered to us with in a week! So exciting!

I had put the fried bacon fat in the trash, but then thought about the ravens and fished most of it of the can and put it on the ravens’ plate. The first raven at the plate ate it all without a care for it’s buddy.

Hubs procedure is on the 24th. This is mostly because he rescheduled it to not be close to the holidays. 😡

GG’s breeder has retired from the business. He’s had all of his adults fixed and now they just laze around the house and look beautiful.

Hub’s cousin in VA breeds and shows Bernese Mountain Dogs and has mentioned that she thinks we would be wonderful puppy parents. She has an award winning, super champion female that she breeds once a year and has said that family always gets first pick…

I gotta wonder if a lifeguard could have helped in that situation? So much goes on during a heart attack, it might not have been the water that killed him at all. Still…I’m sorry for your loss.

After Hubs has his procedure, I’m going to insist that he come to the gym with me for a week, just so he can sit on the bleachers and read while I’m in the water. Maybe I can convince him to continue after he’s well. And before I kill him that is.

Earlier today I said “make it so” to one of my direct reports, and the reference went right over his head. It’s kind of a geeky one, but most adults will have at least heard of it or seen a meme or something. Turns out the show it came from\* ended 3 years before he was born. 😳 Pls send the walker and shawl directly to my house, kthxbye.

\*_Star Trek: The Next Generation_

It’s another cold and _very_ gusty day, so my car remains uncovered/the driveway remains unshoveled. I had tentative plans to go out this evening and tomorrow night, but I don’t feel like dealing with the car (or the still-icy side streets) so now I’ll be staying put until Saturday morning. I’ll free the car sometime Friday afternoon. Even going to my Saturday AM appointment might depend on how much snow we wind up getting Friday night; hopefully, it will just be a dusting. And, hopefully, this ridiculous wind\* will die down sometime soon.

\*Yes, I know it’s just snow blowing around and not the insanely scary fires that LA is dealing with…I’m still gonna whine! 😛

Work has had its ups and downs this week, but life has been pretty quiet due to the weather. A new Lego set ([Pac-Man](https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/pac-man-arcade-10323)) is due to be delivered tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to that: I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow night, Friday night, and this weekend. It’s life in the fast lane at Casa Misnomer! 😁

The back steps and a path across the patio are clear and dry, but Bailey isn’t a fan of the snow-covered yard. The snow goes up to just above her hocks/ankles: it’s not _very_ hard to get through, but it takes a little effort. Especially for a 16-year-old with arthritis. I think it tires her out a bit, and the snow/cold might bother her more than it used it. There hasn’t been a repeat of the snow zoomies, and she’s quick to come back inside whenever she’s done with her business. She’s being a _really_ good dog, though, and still asking to go out whenever she needs to. 💕

I am heartbroken about the wildfires and the destruction. Everyone I know from there, at least on Facebook, has checked in or is not in the danger zone. Still, I keep thinking of places I used to go, and I’m hoping that at least some of them may have _already_ closed since I knew them, like during Covid. Died a peaceful death, I mean. What I’m seeing on the news looks like the Atlanta depot, post-Sherman. I can’t express.

First day of working for the museum (still on temp basis) went very well. We got way more done than they thought we would. I think that’s because I kept working while the real employees would start gabbing. Them seeing me work led to more production.

If I do get a job there full time, it’ll take me the better part of 2 months to put their shop in order. I thought I was a pack-rat. I couldn’t find a specific tool in there to save my life. But I find that work kind of soothing.

One of Mom’s stitching friends just lost her stash. Decades of patterns, threads, canvases and all went up in flames along with all of the other things people collect over the years.

Happily she and her family and little dog evacuated on time, but it is still heart breaking.

Once they are settled, I plan to send her some of my stash. And some new stuff as well.

Well, yanno…I always wanted a pony!!!

It is still snowing here but is supposed to stop tomorrow for a day or so. The schools are still closed, the gym is still on limited hours (no lifeguard) and today was the first day mail has been delivered.

UPS has been on the job non-stop and I’ve seen Fed-Ex trucks on the road as well. Both of them have delivered here, everything has been put under our front porch by the door.

Nobody has knocked for hot water, but the hot chocolate packs have been disappearing from their treat box faster than normal. Hubs bought some hand warmers and put them in the box and half of them are gone already. That means we need to buy more.

One of the big reasons we bought so close to the highway was knowing that our road would always be clear. This has been a great test of our winter planning skillz. I’m kinda proud of how it has worked out.

That’s great to hear!

Yes, **JtC** , I did shovel snow on the ramp today. I can to be able to pull the full cart back up it this afternoon.

Hey, here’s a question for anyone here using a cane. Do you need your cane all the time? Do you use your cane all the time? Because I need more reasons to feel guilty, I worry that people will think that I’m just faking it when I use my cane. I don’t always need it and I normally don’t use it at home unless I’m in lots and lots of pain. But I always use it when I go out… just in case. Does this make sense? Anybody have any other clever ideas?

Yanno how GG makes normal cats look small? Same, for doggy, but add drool. Not as bad as a St. Bernard (jeebus!) but there’s definitely some 🤤 in addition to enough shed fur daily to knit another cat.

Someone came by with a St. Bernard yesterday, and **Backup Manager** was like, “That’s not a dog. That’s a cow.”

In the calmest, most matter-of-fact voice you can imagine.

I love working with people like you.

I don’t always need it and I normally don’t use it at home unless I’m in lots and lots of pain. But I always use it when I go out… just in case.

I think our lovely **Jane** would tell you … sometimes, people need whackin’.

If I had them I’d send old patterns. When my mother died a relative cleaned/restored her wedding dress, and it was displayed in a store along with the original pattern from 1951,

I just saw the ABC News report on the LA fires. There are no words… 😢

Daughter, her spawn, and Trevor have gone home. Trevor made a snack of cat turds from Ziva’s box. My fault - I decided to wait till they’d gone to scoop. Now I guess I don’t have to. Idiot dog. I did have a fun day with Tobias, but I’m glad he’s gone. Both kids left with a necklace each from their great-grandma’s jewelry box. Anyway, it’s quiet and I’m enjoying it.

**FCD** had a long day in Trappe (that’s where the boat yard is that will do the work on our boat.) Mostly he was stuck listening to the guy tell the same stories again. Is there a polite way to tell someone that you’ve heard what they’re talking about the last time you saw them? I know you listen to grandpa’s war stories again and again, but this guy is someone we plan to contract with, and I don’t think we owe him the same courtesy as to grandpa.

Plus this guy tried telling **FCD** that we’d be getting another huge snowstorm this weekend. I checked 3 different sites and the worst prediction was 1-3", the other two gave less than 50% chance of anything. Maybe they’re getting a more dire forecast across the bay.

Why do you care what people (I assume you mean random strangers) think? You don’t owe anyone an explanation, and so what if they think you’re faking? What can they do besides make snarky comments? I think if I needed a cane, I’d have it with me all the time, just in case. Plus, with **JtC** as inspiration, I might become a vigilante!!

My day is winding down. I need to refill the pellet stove and that’s pretty much it. Early to bed, I think.

Upon re-read, I do see the irony.
