Some days I feel adventurous, other days I feel like I want my old standards made the traditional old way. Neither is wrong, but were I in your shoes I’d think about what you, or more importantly _her_, mood is tonight and comport with that. In general I’d think that with-peel scalloped potatoes would be just fine in the cooking and in the eating. They will certainly however be different. Or maybe, just maybe, throw caution to the wind. A wasted day here after a late night last night. That seems to be a pattern. Had enough sleep but awoke late with zero ambition. And no, drinking was not part of the equation. “Late” just means late, it’s not a euphemism for “came home stupid drunk”. This time. 😉 **FCM** I’m sorry you and MIL & **FCD** are dealing with all this. It sure can seem overwhelming. Trying hard to find a pony in this pile of horse manure I have a thought. In a way, MIL losing everyone (if other BIL goes soon) can be a good thing. MIL and you folks can start to heal. If all 4 of these folks were shuffling off one every 2 years, you’d all be in the thick of it for a decade. What Fate as decreed here is the “Rip the Band-aid off” method. MIL has few years left. Maybe better for her to live some of them without the burden of other’s failing health and chaotic lives weighing her down. {{{ **Hugs** }}} to all no matter how you choose to look at it or how Fate deals with the surviving BIL. ---

Got lucky. Someone who is not a resident, but who is staying here with a family member, found my key fob near the garage entry and turned it in. No idea who she is, but I’d sure like to thank her for saving me a couple hundred $$$. ---

Sorry to pile on, but this was my day yesterday: I went to my quilting class. My niece K works at that shop so I see her almost every time I go to class. This morning she was not there, C, the shop owner came up to me with a nervous smile and said, “I am not sure how to tell you this. K showed up for work this morning and just as she got in the door she got a call from B (her husband) telling her that L, her younger sister committed suicide sometime after midnight. K left right away.” I thanked C and went into the classroom. I sent a text to K to let her know C told me the news. K said that she had no details at all, and that she would keep me posted. L lived in Houston TX so there was really nothing we could do from here. Later, we found out that she had shot herself. She lived in a very toxic household where everyone used drugs. She lived with her husband and two sons one of which has been in and out of jail for dealing drugs (The third son was disowned when he came out as gay ten or so years ago) L’s husband will have nothing to do with our side of the family to the point of ignoring phone calls even in this situation. My last interaction with her husband maybe eight years ago was very confrontational and almost resulted in violence. There are two sisters and a brother living in the same city and they are evidently working with the husband’s stepfather to try to organize burial. I am up to date but I have no idea how this will turn out. ---

When it comes to roiling emotions the only thing worse than a death in a functional caring family is a death in a chaotic hate-filled family. {{ **Hugs** }} to those who can benefit by them. Be easy on yourself and supportive to your niece and her immediate family. ---

We ran into **Brynda** there and caught up a bit. It was nice to see her for the first time in about 16 years. The Assembly was wonderful and something I think we’re going to attend regularly. They feel like my kind of people. My partner and his partner were there, so Partner and Hubby were finally able to meet. It went well, too the point of Hubby telling me how cute Partner and I looked together. That, and wearing my new dress/ looking pretty made me feel over all good. I watered the baby trees and looked at the pomegranates, then I looked them up online. Mine are getting close to being ready, but not yet. I really hope they ripen before it starts freezing, it would distress me if I lost them after all this time. I picked half of the roma tomatoes and got them wrapped and boxed, I’m going to hope the rest will ripen on the vine. ---
