Short heaving. Now I wait. For matresses, new sinks, and other things.

Oh yes, nothing like dealing with PII and PHI.

Yeah, but who would notice? 😜😘

**hippie** - spousal unit needs super-mega-wide shoes and he has a terrible time finding anything fit and that he likes. He found some New Balance that he liked and bought 2 pair right off.

Just back from a short jaunt ashore. We got tickets for a trek to a penguin rookery in Yorke Bay. What they failed to mention was the trek over the sand dunes. It was a real challenge for **FCD** and we started back early so he could pace himself. Walking on soft, dry sand can kick one’s butt!

But we saw a bunch of 🐧 and took a bunch of pictures. I picked up a couple of shells and brought a small beach-worth of sand in my shoes. We got t-shirts for the grands and hoodies for Daughter and SIL. We did walk around a bit in Stanley, but it was very windy and the beach trek wore us out. So we came back to the ship for lunch and chillage.

I haven’t really said anything about the food. It’s mostly just ok, except for the bread and rolls. _Soooooooo_ good. Oh, and there’s a caramel tart that shows up far too rarely on the dessert counter. It’s pretty amazing!

Two days at sea now and a stop at Montevideo on Sunday, then Buenos Aires and the plane home on Moanday…

Morning all. Been somewhat slothful (even more than usual) this morning, 48F heading to near 60F and no rain to be seen, thinking about going out and buying a new bed comforter, still itching a lot and wondering if the ‘old reliable’ (been using it for winters for 20 years now) is due for replacement. So prices at Wal-Mart look reasonable so may get some shopping in along with gym time. Other than that not much on the agenda.

**Pilot** , at least you have an early diagnosis and can look into treatments/watching for issues (at 71 I probably need to have my head examined too). My Mom’s side of the family, which I tend to take after, has a history of living long and keeping their wits about them, so I’m hoping to follow those footsteps by keeping both body and mind fairly active. Best to you, and I hope getting back on the plane is less stressful than getting to the hotel.

**Real Fish** , Just {{{hugs}}} for you and your Dad.

**shoe** , glad the new system is working well. Won’t be surprised if business picks up at least in the short term as folks find out about it.

Saw Penn&Teller at the Rio about 15 years ago, it’s worth the time and money to see them, IMHO.

**Cookie** , hope the little one is doing better. My niece was diagnosed with a ‘hole in her heart’ during her first week of life and had to have an operation right then. She’s 30 years old now and doing great.

**JtC** , so sorry about Hubs, it reminds me of my Dad’s last years, without Mom (who died years earlier) he was a lost soul. At least he has you. {{hugs}} And you are a good daughter–I know this because your Mom says so…

**Coppertone** , good on finding help for the cat. I tend to hit stubborn caps with the handle of a dinner (not sharp) knife to loosen them up, some pickle jars are really screwed on tight…

**nellie** , as much as you walk, having the right shoes is worth the money.

**doggio** , Ouch! on the insurance bill; my homeowners has been going up steadily over the years but not at that rate.

**FCM** , hope you have a good day in the Falklands. Every time I hear that name now I recall a Robin Williams skit where you hear it as the F\*\*\*kland Islands and grin. Hope you can get up close and personal with the penguins (ETA: I see you did get some penguin time and the kids should love the hoodies).

**boo fae** , that looks like a nice pub, if I ever make it back to England the first pint is on me.

**swampy** , have a digital coupon for Pepsi 12-packs at Kroger, waiting for Friday as I get 4x points on my card toward cheaper gas (dear lord, I’ve become my Mother in terms of shopping…).

**Wet one** , ah, the intellectual elite…

**Spicy** , I always tried to make lists of things (even minor ones) I needed to accomplish at work, it helped me focus. Glad to hear Wee Weasel is doing so well.

Whew! Most humble apologies for anyone I missed, going 18 hours without posting puts me way behind the response curve. Need to dress mostly appropriately and head on out into the wilds of Wal-Mart. Take care all.

There are a lot of strays around the building. People are not supposed to put food out, but they do. Last nights wasn’t stray. It had a homemade collar and was people and dog friendly. It kept trying to play with friends dog, which she was walking. Small cat too, maybe not fully an adult. I hope she gets back to her home.
I wish I had thought to call myself Coppertone.
Still torn about whether to keep my tooth or not.
My employer had sent me an e mail with the job offer and had told me to come by tuesday.
I called her Monday and she said she’d e mail me the onboarding paperwork that night.
It hasn’t come yet.

Oh, I hear you! I can’t find shoes locally so have to buy online. (I’ve had New Balance shoes, too. No store here, so they’re pricey, too.) The EE selection is always limited to one or two uglier models. It’s like we should be grateful they make shoes in our sizes at all. I emailed NB and Brooks but never heard back.

Clearly, they don’t give a duck.

I walked!

It was only 1.39 miles, down to the corner market and back, and I’m not counting the time because I was in the store buying stuff. But after the holidays, the lousy weather, my sore ankle (which is _still_ sore), and general sloth, at least I went out for a _short_ walk.

I just saw a street sweeper outside. I ‘ran’ out and move my car into the driveway.

So much happening! I’m hoping I’ll get better at keeping up, but in the meantime…

**Pilot** , I started noticing some mental decline in 2020, and it got worse over the next two years, which were some of the most stressful I’ve had. Once I’d retired and some of that stress had lifted, it seems to have stabilized and even improved a little. There are still some memory deficits here and there, and if I don’t get enough sleep, they get worse, but I’m not having the more worrisome lapses anymore. With any luck, as you create a calmer environment for yourself, your mental processes will stabilize as well. I suppose we can’t expect to stay as sharp as we once were. As my MIL used to say, almost nothing works as well when it’s old as it did when it was new!

**Real\_Fish** , that process sounds very familiar to me. My FIL also needed a feeding tube; in his case, he’d had a major stroke, so his ability to swallow didn’t come back, but my understanding is that it can improve with therapy for some people. It sounds like you’re doing everything you can and you’ve got good supports in place for him. There’s no easy way to go through this, and you’re dealing with it well.

All the travel stories are making me feel like going somewhere! Until I think about actually doing the prep work for going on a trip. However…

The other members of the family are very excited about planning a trip for the eclipse, and I’ve apparently agreed to it. We’re going to Michigan, which would be stupid except that Older Daughter and SIL live there. Younger Daughter wants to drive up, since she’s blissfully unemployed until at least June, and Mr. Legend and I would fly up to meet her, since both of us have hip joints that are too creaky for long car trips.

This means that I’m not actually going to be in town when you come through ABQ, **JtC**.

Mr. Legend saw his oncologist and had his quarterly infusion day before yesterday, so he’s in more pain than usual. He went out for edibles today, and the clerk there told him he has a medical marijuana card - which he didn’t know and doesn’t think he ever applied for! It’s probably not a _bad_ thing, but he’s a little worried it could affect his pain treatment plan in the future.

Also, I’ve been griping about the medical center’s parking lot for years. All the stripes were worn off, so parking has been freestyle and chaotic. Well, they finally restriped the lot! With spaces that are too small for the large pickups and SUVs almost everyone drives, so I still had to park way up at the back of the lot. On the bright side, it forced me to take a walk.

Now I’m off to help take down and store the last of the Christmas decorations, since it’s apparently “not even January anymore,” according to my daughter. What a Scrooge, right?

ETA hurray for getting the documents!

Howdy Y’all! Things got did and we brunched. OYKW must love me, because he can be so long sufferin’ when need be. The other Verger (who is also the Parish administrator) and I got into a discussion about the planned Lenten Wednesday night soup and sammich and book discussion. He was so patient with me as we were at it for about an hour. However, I think he would much prefer I not do that again, so when I feel like that might happen in the future I shall go by myself, Eggs Up was nummy as usual, so that helped. We are doin’ a book study on [The Good Life](https://www.amazon.com/Good-Life-Lessons-Scientific-Happiness/dp/198216669X/ref=asc_df_198216669X&mcid=262fa8b83c483dc9a6926286674f4f7e?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=79852162946901&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583451681479157&psc=1) which is not a theological text, but our Diocese has a great study guide to go along with the readin’ and discussion of the book. I shall be the facilitator. I ordered the book today and should have it by Moanday at the latest. I am really lookin’ forward to a good read and a good discussion.

**MOOOOOOM** yay for play with penguins! Also, It will be fun to watch people tryin’ to decide if I am demented or just bein’ my usual self. 😛 👿

I’m so close to being done with work for the day that it doesn’t really make sense to be goofing off now…yet, here I am. 😁

I have a ticket for some jazz in DC this evening, at a venue I like, but I’ve decided not to go. Dealing with rush hour traffic, spending ~$60 on dinner and parking on top of the ticket price, sitting alone on a back-unfriendly barstool for a couple of hours, ordering a dessert that I don’t need (because I would), plus generally feeling kind of grumpy…all to hear a singer who seems promising but who I only know a little about. Yeah; not tonight.

Plus, I’m kinda tired because Bailey started barking at around midnight and barked off and on for at least 30 minutes. And it’s a small house. She hardly ever barks in the middle of the night – I don’t remember the last time she did – but I’m thinking maybe a fox or a skunk or something was right outside. I got out of bed to pee (once I was awake), but didn’t do any investigating. Just yelled “shaddup” a few times.

The weekend jazz festival I go to every year is only two weeks away! It’s just across the river, close enough to easily drive there/back every day, but I like to get a suite in the festival’s hotel and treat it like a mini-vacation (Friday afternoon to Monday morning). Starting at 4pm on Friday there’s wall-to-wall jazz, running the gamut from high school bands to local acts to national names: this year’s featured guests include Delfeayo Marsalis, Lisa Fischer, and Kurt Elling. There are also workshops, all kinds of vendors (jewelry, art, etc.), and midnight jam sessions. Usually I’m too tired from the week to stay awake for the Friday night jam, but I try to go to Saturday’s. Maybe this year I’ll try to go to Sunday’s, too. I bought my pass and booked my suite back in late November, and I’m so glad that it’s finally February: I _really_ need a break, and I’m trusting the festival to do the trick.

Wink emoji noted, but man I do _not_ want to live that long! 🙂 I had my bariatric surgery two years ago so that I’ll be more likely to see 70 (Mom died at 67), but I can’t imagine wanting/needing to hang around much after 90.

When my mom was in assisted living, it took _forever_ to get them to start calling me whenever something significant happened (like being sent to the ER)…then one night they called to let me know she was being given cough medicine. Because she had a cold. After my heart started beating again I had to laugh.

Not unusual around here, IME. One day I realized I was spending way too much time trying to word OPs _just right_, and decided to simply not start new threads anymore (except TV show discussions or recommendation requests). It’s been over a year since I created a new topic.

Well, went to the gym and found I hadn’t packed my gym clothes in the bag, which I have done on occasion. Anyway, getting close to my one must-see TV show of the week (_Pardon the Interruption_ on ESPN), so I’ll watch that and then prepare to dine (I did remember to take the hamburger out to defrost yesterday, so that much of my mind is still functioning).

**Coppertone** , Yeah! on the job info.

“IL”, the totality is only about 2 hours North of me so i can drive, experience and get back home the same day. All y’all have fun up Michigan way. If you’re close to the Western side of the state, maybe **Shoe** can fix you up with some Pizzas.

**Flyboy** , 1.4 miles is still a lot of walking (at least for me it is}. Keep to it.

Amen.

OK, off to TV Land. Catch you this evening after the daily sweat.

I feel very strange today. I was all looking forward to a chill day working and then I just got in this really weird state of mind where nothing gave me any satisfaction, not even fun things. I tried taking a break from screens, which helped, and gave me an idea for my novel, so then I wrote for a while, but I nearly fell asleep! My son is fixated on my phone’s calculator right now so I started reading _Weapons of Math Destruction_ (the irony is not lost on me), but I am back to feeling weird. I have checked my medicine containers five times today to make sure I took my meds because I just don’t feel right. Maybe just a touch of the post-COVID syndrome. I’ve mostly recovered, but apparently not all the way.

His conceptual understanding of mathematics is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a kid that young. However, the coolest part for me is how he uses numbers for creative expression. For example, he used fridge magnets to create the number one billion, with a one at the center and all the zeroes around it in an outward spiral. Or he creates ascending stacks of magnatiles in multiples of six, organized by color, and rearranges his colored dinosaurs on each stair in a matching pattern. He loves numbers so much that his love goes beyond their mere function, and extends to an aesthetic, artistic appreciation of them. That, to me, is like, whoa.
