Wow. Lotta stress with y’all today.

**Flyboy** that is the worst crash commute story I’ve heard in a very long time.

Speaking of crashes, yesterday a minor T-bone happened right in front of me. Two damaged cars, no apparent injuries, and none of the debris hit me. But it was close; this was 20-30 feet from me.

Congrats there **Spicy** on potty success. Another milestone on the way to his PhD! 😁

**Oopsie** glad the cutover is going well. So far.

I sure will. OTOH, I might give you a shout having nothing to do with baseball. After all:

I was once in a parking garage and a colleague was on a call in their car, and even with all of their windows up the call was literally echoing off the walls. It was a proposal-related discussion, so I tapped on their window and let them know that the the whole garage could hear them clear as a bell!

This is because they use the speakers in the door and that particular car has poor insulation behind the speaker. I was walking to the store once and this woman’s conversation was so distinct I heard it from several cars back until I had passed her and was heading to the store. She got out of her car right then and I awkwardly tried to explain to her that her car did this and that she was pr…

Ref the various posts about the JWs comin’ a-callin’ …

My Dad was a devout atheist. But later in life when he was single he loved it when the JW ladies came calling. He’d invite them in, keep them occupied for far too long, then turn them loose. But they kept coming back, so it must have worked for them too.

Years ago (when we’re age 40-ish) my late first wife’s phone rang one day and it was a local JW lady wanting to proselytize. Betty was old, black, not too well-educated, but exceedingly sweet and utterly dedicated to Spreading the garbled JW Word.

Wife was a theologian by hobby and a lawyer by trade. Poor Betty didn’t stand a chance. They had a phone relationship that lasted another 20 years and through a couple moves by each of them. Wife almost talked her out of being a JW and coming over to a real religion. _Almost_. I talked to Betty now and again; she was a lovely lady, if a bit confused about the whole faith thing,

> When I was in HS, my parents’number was the old town hall number. At least once a month, we’d get a call about someone’s trash pick up. Most were understanding but one woman refused to believe my step-mom until she finally told the woman, "Fine, we’ll be there tomorrow! " Never did find out what happened.

I’ve told this story before …

At one time my wife’s one-woman law firm had an 800-number that rang through to our home office.

New Mexico was then all one area code (505). Back in the day Domino’s pizza advertised in NM “Call 1-505-345-6789 from anywhere in the state to order toll-free from your local store!” Of course if instead the drunk rocket surgeons (Hi **Shoe** 😉 ) heard “toll free” and dialed 800-345-6789 instead they got us. By then we were living in St. Louis, so however late it was when they wanted pizza, it was an hour later at our house. Sigh.

Most folks were sheepish and gracious once we figured out what was causing these calls and could redirect them to the right number. Some folks got highly indignant or angry. We always took those folks’ orders and offered to throw in a double order of free breadsticks to salve their wounded pride. Always. 🤪

Finally that advertising changed somehow and the New Mexico pizza calls stopped. Aaah, yes, blessed relief!

A year or so later we started getting calls from old folks trying to book a visit to the **[Barona Resort & Casino](https://www.barona.com/)**. Turns out their number is 888-345-6789 and ours is 800-345-6789. Old folks are kinda buffaloed by this new fangled idea that “toll-free” is not always equal to “800”.

Took us a while to figure out what was happening there too. But once we knew we’d cheerfully redirect old Harold or Maude to the right number for Barona. And again most folks were grateful for our help and apologetic. As to the others, they launched off into high dudgeon and insisted we take their reservation; they’re not senile, they dialed correctly dammit!!1!.

So we did, offering them a suite upgrade and $300 of free play _and_ complimentary 🍾 🥂 upon check-in to smooth their ruffled feathers. Whichever class of room they wanted, we always had vacancies for VIPs like them. 😜

As to me …
A great day. Figured out what I needed for the trip, got it from the storage unit, then hit the new digs & got settled in. And packed for the trip, so I’m ready to roll tomorrow.

Found that there’s more closet and dresser space than I’d planned for, so went back to the storage unit, got the vast majority of my regular-use clothes and some admin stuff and returned to settle that in. Off to Target for some tidbits, then out dinner at a sleazy dive that makes a great buffalo chicken salad, but really weak cocktails. Whereat I’m still typing after eating / drinking.

Time to cover the 2 miles to home when I hit [send] and promptly hit the hay. Tomorrow is wake up, shower, uber to train, train to airport, hit the club, then board and go to Sint Maarten. Sounds like fun.

Talk to y’all sometime during that perigrination.

Cheers all!!
