I used that gag when I was MC for a really bad talent show, except the setup was “A lost wallet was turned in to Ms. Waite in the front office…” etc.

> How does one acquire so many of an item one dislikes so intensely?

Spousal unit acquired them, then gave them to me when they got too snug for him or when he got tired of them. Because he lurves me. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 And because he’s constantly buying outerwear. The man is a jacket/hoodie menace.

I unloaded my trunk at the thrift store, then reloaded it at Food Lion. Freezer is full, fridge is full, life is good. I’m making battered fish fillets for **FCD** and MIL and I’m having a tuna steak, because YUMMM! I’ll figure out sides later. Plus I put the lunch dishes in the dishwasher and it’s sloshing away.

A couple of people from MIL’s church just dropped in to visit her. I’m hiding in the next room - not feeling like being sociable, and they’re here for her anyway.

I’m trying to back off my stress eating - I overindulged in too many sweets in the last month or so. But since I’m making an effort to follow my cardiologist’s orders regarding walking, plus I’ve been doing some stretches for my bad shoulder, it’s as good a time as any to start eating right. The dumb thing is I feel so much better when I eat healthier, but when my sweet tooth takes over, the goodies seem to take control. There’s no logic.

Well, what to do now? My crocheting is in the living room where I don’t want to be. But I do have my tablet - I guess I can play some games to pass time. Or talk to youse guys. Or nap.

You’ve mentioned this before. If it’s not too nosy, what’s your shoulder issue, and what are these magickal stretches?

I have a soft-tissue issue due to years of wearing a heavy backpack on the same single shoulder (one of my bra straps has to be a bit shorter than the other) and there’s pretty much always a knot right where I can juuuuuust baaaarely reach it, near my shoulder blade.

Hell, **S.M.** has a painful shoulder but I think hers is due to a bone spur, so I doubt she can stretch her way outta that one.

I felt bad for her; she was in such obviously visible pain the last few days that everyone - including me - was gently pushing her off the ovens and onto less physically demanding stations.

**shoe** - I think it’s a frozen shoulder. At least it feels like when my other shoulder was diagnosed as frozen. I found exercises from an arthritis website that are identical or very similar to what I did in PT. If I can find the sites, I’ll send you a link. They’re pretty much stretches for the entire range of motion. It seems to be helping loosen things up.

MIL had a visit from a former neighbor who goes to the same church as well as the wife of one of the preachers. I was overhearing the conversation and the preacher wife had a speaking style that just grated on me. She seems to be a nice person, but everything she says drips of syrup - just too too sweet. Plus she has the annoying habit of finishing sentences for others. I have to wonder if she’s always that way or if she was in Preacher Wife Mode. MIL enjoyed the visit, and that’s what matters.

No one else wants supper, so I’ll just grill my tuna steak and scare up some sides. Their loss!

My “nephew” (my BFFs’ son) is 23, and over the years it’s gotten harder and harder to come up with things we can do together. Lego to the rescue! 🧱 😃 He’s super into them, and is the reason I started building sets last year. In August I took him and his GF (who goes to college in TX but was here for the summer) to a Lego expo, and now he and I will be going to “bricks and brews” next month: a local group has started holding custom build events at area breweries on Saturday/Sunday afternoons, where they design a set and a ticket buys you the pieces + 1 drink. They provide instructions for the assembly, and there are options to personalize it along the way. My nephew wasn’t able to go to the “haunted house” event this past weekend, but he’s up for next month’s autumn-themed build! Yay! I bought our tix this morning. This brewery is much closer to me/us, which will be better. And while I genuinely love his GF, it will be nice to spend some quality time with just him. It will be a bunch of adults playing with Lego in a bar so it’ll definitely be _kind_ of lame, but I’m hoping it won’t be _completely_ lame. Heh.

The next baseball game I care about starts at 5:08pm; I’m looking forward to watching it. The Yankees have won the first 2 games of this 7-game series, so while another win would be nice we’ll still be doing alright even if we lose today. Regardless of the outcome, it’ll be good to have a game end while it’s still primetime (instead of ~11pm).

> But, won’t he then go “hey, free upgrade!” and let you go ahead?

One would think! I’m pretty stunned that I haven’t been able to get a simple approval yet. Sure, I was hoping I might not have to pay for the installation/labor, but at this point I just want the damn door…which is why I worded my last email the way I did (“if I don’t hear from D. by the end of the week I’ll assume I have approval to proceed”). My property manager’s only replies have been that he’ll remind his brother – again – to contact me, so at least this way I have the “you had your chance to say no” documented if I ever need it. After 7 weeks I’m tired of waiting, and frankly I’m hoping that I _don’t_ hear from the brother this week. I need to decide whether I want to use Home Depot or Lowe’s (they carry different brands), but I’m planning to go to one of them this weekend – I want to see some storm doors in person – and get the ball rolling.

> [@The\_Stainless\_Steel\_Rat](#):
>
> do you plan to take the door with you the next time you move?

Nope. I am what some have called The Best Tenant Ever. 😁 I don’t mind spending my own money on upgrades that will significantly improve my quality of life while I live here…hell, in 2016 I paid to have the back yard fenced in. The door itself will run ~$500; I expect installation to be about double that, which is why I’ve been hoping my property manager would agree to that part. But to me, the cost – while not insignificant – will be totally worth it even if I’m only here for another year.

I’m so sorry. 💙

> You wanted a Bailey friendly door and were willing to pay for it but needed permission.

Nah, the new storm door won’t be more Bailey-friendly – in fact, it will take away her ability to access a screen at snout-level. 🙂 I need a new door because the current one is warped (and won’t be much use when winter really hits), and because the closer isn’t adjustable anymore and these days it only slams shut (and, in warm weather, sticks and has to be kicked open). I’m willing to pay partly because I should have mentioned the warping a couple of years ago, and partly to ensure that I get the features I want (full view, retractable top screen, and lockable).

Afternoon all. Did my walking and pedaling at the gym, had a mid-day sammich with applesauce and a apple, and will shortly head out to coach soccer, managed to get a lighted field so don’t have to worry about stopping early. Then home to dinner and the evening sloth. Got up to 66F today, but is already starting to cool off again.

Just looked at the clock and need to get a move on. Catch up with y’all later tonight.

Howdy Y’all! We pigged out at the hog trough GC and then it was back to da cave for nappage. I spent some time out on the back porch readin’ as ‘twas in the mid sixties and felt good with the sunshine. I also managed to ward of malaria and scurvy whilst readin’. I am a multi-tasker! In other news, I made a chawklit pie a little while ago. A certain spoiled brat _someone_ has already sliced into it. I shall do so myself in a bit. Netflix and chill are up next. I shall have either popcorn or another piece of pie, or both. The willy-nilly is strong this evenin’!

**Oopsie** bricks and sounds like it will be a ton o’ fun! Before the plague, there was a monthly beer and hymns at a local brew place. I didn’t go every month, but really had a good time when I went. I’d grab a sammich and a beer and would go in and sing along. There was a “book of hymms”, a very eclectic one at that with everything from great hymns to southern gospel, and a band that called itself “Ales Angels” played. I wish that could get goin’ again.

OK, I may regret this, but I’m looking for ideas and someone here might have a good one. On Saturday, we’re taking the grands to a T-or-T at a local arts facility. They’ll be in costume. I will, too, if I get a good enough, cheap, and easy idea. By cheap and easy, I mean using stuff I already have around the house, because I’m not buying anything. So, suggestions?? \< _bracing myself_ \>

The tuna steak was yum. I also steamed and ingested the broccoli I found in the fridge, and I had some yogurt. **FCD** ate some punkin pie and MIL had half a McD’s apple pie with cool whip. So I was the only adult in the room 😛

At least there weren’t a lot of dishes. I’ll have an apple later. I guess I’ll crochet now.

Dress all in black. Black pants, black shirt.

Take a black eyeliner or Sharpie, and draw three curved lines across each cheek, and an inverted heart shape on the tip of your nose.

_Et voila!_ Behold, the world’s cheapest “black Halloween cat!” costume.

Or there’s the classic “cut out a face in an old sheet” and go as a ghost.

One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her four Pendleton shirts and a wool Pendleton jacket. She gave me the shirts and is keeping the jacket for herself. I asked why her patient was getting rid of thes like-new shirts. She hesitated, then said ‘Her husband died.’ But apparently it was a while ago. Her kids didn’t want them, and she was just going to donate them to Goodwill. But she gave them to us instead. 🙂

Do you have a black dress? That and a homemade (or store bought if you have one on a closet shelf) witch’s hat is a quick and dirty. Disclaimer: I keep a witch hat on the top shelf of my closet and put on a simple black velvet opera gown for my irk Halloween costume.

We got our ballots today. There are a couple of initiatives I haven’t decided whether I’ll vote on, but all of the people who ‘prefer Democratic party’ by their names have been voted for. (One opponent ‘prefers MAGA Republican party’. That’s a hard ‘Nope!’) I don’t know anything about the non-partisan candidates and their offices, so I’m not going to vote for any of them.

My day just seemed to keep getting a bit out of hand. Launched around 11am with four stops planned (temp agency, drop package at FedYecchs, return library book I gave up on after 60 pages that I just couldn’t get into, go get flu and Covid shots at Kaiser).

Temp agency went as planned, but I added impulse stops at a nearby Ikea (got frozen meatballs, mix for what I think is the correct sauce for Swedish meatballs, and an interesting-looking white chocolate/raspberry candy bar) and Walmart (picked up noodles and cream for meatball-related purposes, got milk while I was there anyway). Running down the mental list, I realized that of a four-item to-do list, at my third stop I still had three to go.

Did get the package and book dealt with without any extras added.

Off to Kaiser for flu and Covid shots. Nice receptionist suggested I do their “wellness check” (BP, weight, and such) while I was there. Made sense, so I did that. This led to some new prescriptions (back on BP meds and steroid) and a lab visit to leave some blood. Also led to a referral to their “behavioral health” (apparently polite term for the psych department) for anxiety/stress issues and an appointment for a mammogram.

Quality clothing lasts forever. I have a nice wool overcoat that I bought when I was in my early 30’s. It is showing its age, but I still get compliments on it every time I wear it.

Bastids!

> About 10 years ago a team of archeologists from the University came and asked to excavate my privy pit in the corner of my back yard.

I knew someone in Prescott who lived next door to one of the historical landmark gingerbread mansions. She spent a year watching college students dig up her neighbors privy pits. Everyone in the office learned a whole lot about privy digs (which I found pretty interesting). Your experience seems to match hers but of course the only bottle they gave her was OK’d by the property owner.

I can’t go without shoes so I have indoor and outdoor shoes/uggs.

Our pepper shaker emptied and I put it in the dishwasher. When Hubs unloaded the dishwasher, he filled the pepper shaker. and put the pepper next to the cumin. It was very close, but he still lives.

When Dad remodeled their bathroom, we learned that the razor blades just dropped onto one of the cross beams to rust until the house was demo’d.

And of course _nothing_ ever just happens to be dropped on the floor, right? Or in the fud bowl that just happens to be handy.

Moving does indeed suck. There are many good reasons that GG and I moved across the state and left Hubs to deal with the AZ place and bickering was a big one.

In her defense, she wore Mary Janes so her they probably all looked alike under her bed. I’ve known two other people who did that as well but I don’t know the back story. I do know that I’ve gotten dressed while I was still asleep in the past so it could have happened to me. It didn’t. I just wore a blouse inside out for hours before someone mentioned the tag.

Every time you bring up your EX, I am reminded how happy I am that you not only survived him, you are now happy and thriving.

Three other people.

I love watching people do their jobs perfectly. Something about it just clicks a happy button in my mind 🙂

That looks not good. It would have been fascinating to watch though.

There used to be feral peacocks living down by the Lakes. Hubs would get up early in the morning to go and look for shed tail feathers. He had to go early because we weren’t the only cat slaves there, just the most well trained.

I highly suspect you are correct.

Can you maybe bring **[some slices of cheese to throw at the lollygaggers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZNOiP6Tbp4)** and steal the Chairperson’s gavel? While everyone is in shock from getting slices of cheese tossed on their face, you can bang the gavel and proclaim the meeting over.

No secrets here! I’ll be happy to share. Someone asked me to explain how I make cheese and I did a whole term paper about it, I will find it after I finish posting here.

That is such a common issue now. It started when the world ended and now that Google has gone AI, it is just not as good as it used to be.

Ain’t this a great time to live? Who woulda ever thunk the future would have included sippy stemed wine glasses?

> She said “I want you to help me die.” How do you respond to that? We both understand why she feels that way, but dang, saying it to your son?

I can still remember the day FIL told Hubs that he wasn’t taking any more pills. It was not a great day, Hubs felt so guilty and conflicted.

> I dug the space heater out because the house has chilled too much but I don’t want to click on the heater quite yet.

I’ve got the space heater in my room, Hubs is loving this weather. We are turning the heat to 68 overnight but the morning sun shines right into my room and the space heater warms my area so he gets to enjoy the house at around 70 until the afternoon. The cats and I spend most of our time in my room anyhow, he just sits in his chair and moves his mouse around, I do interesting stuff…and it is warm in here.

Does your gym have a lifeguard? Do you swim alone? If so, how do you feel about it?

I mostly spend my hour alone and about half way through my laps I start remembering horror and murder movies that included a shapely victim swimming alone in a pool. While I do indeed have a shape, I also know that it is hard to focus under water so the protagonist might mistake me for the main character…or maybe I’m just going to be the beginning shock scene.

> She’s also obsessed with having Indian tacos (American, not Asian)

Fry bread? That’s what the Hopi’s and Apaches called them in AZ. I used to love to watch the women cook them. Oddly enough my fry bread comes out round instead of oval. Round is the standard for such things so I always impress myself when mine comes out right.

I would so crack up if someone were to identify my Cheeto Fingers. Did you get a nice tip?

> I feel so much better when I eat healthier, but when my sweet tooth takes over, the goodies seem to take control. There’s no logic.

Humans evolved to crave high fat and calorie dense food. Our fat stores were what kept us alive over the winters. It took a very long time for humans to evolve and start farming and selling fast food. Our bodies want us to eat and exercise like we did when we were proto-primates, we are genetically designed to get fat.
