What kind of crappy plywood were they getting for $40 a sheet? The only stuff that cheap around here is quarter inch garbage.

Ok, now I understand why my coworkers dislike the time card reporting system so much. This is the first week I need to allot my hours to various grants, and boy howdy, does that system suuuuck. Fill it out, all looks good, click submit and it re-populates with a bunch of stuff I didn’t put in there…no start time for this entry, no end time for that one, some new ones I didn’t even enter. After at least dozen tries, I got it to accept a schedule that has me starting a project at 2 and finishing it at 2 for no hours, but the rest of it is correct.

The church has lasagna, which I was quite happy about. I recognized it as Stouffers.
My church will be paying my ( $25) rent, thank God.
I have apparently been hired. Cant start yet as the new place, recently built, isnt open yet.
I can walk to it in 10 minutes so they will have me on evenings.

Hi folks - I survived my dental excursion.

> [@Sticks\_and\_Scones](#):
>
> Does anybody else have the Novocain make them shaky?

Novocain is mostly obsolete. IANA dentist, but good bet that’s not actually what your dentist is using. If they are, that may be part of why you’re having problems. It might be worth finding out what they really use and discussing it with them. if nothing else, armed with the actual factual name, you’ll have more success searching for answers.

Hooray that **Nellie** is on the mend.

I don’t think that I have this mindset about any other vegetable, and I’m not sure why. Is it because it’s so sweet? I actually don’t have much idea.
>
> Well, I’ve been recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and have actually taken a class and talked with a dietician, so of course I know everything!

Been 12 years for me, but yeah: an instant expert. Welcome to the club. Don’t knock 3 cups of popcorn until you’ve tried to eat that much. It’s bigger than you think. Remember, butter and salt are non-glycemic, so eat all you want. 😁

Short version for @Leaper is corn is a plant, but culinarily speaking it’s a starch. When most folks think of “vegetable”, they’re really thinking “green vegetable”. Even the various sorts of peppers that come in more exciting colors are basically green under the hood.

Hooray!! Here’s hoping this stays together long enough to open. Do you have any guess how many weeks or months that might be?

As to me:
Been a drizzly afternoon and a damp evening. Kinda dreary actually.

My dental encounter proved to be the usual: tiresome, mildy sustainedly uncomfortable, but that’s it; nothing that could be described as pain.

Was in the chair a total of 4 hours, with some short breaks here and there. The actual grinding took 45 minutes. Then there were interminable steps to check the work, touch up here and there, take impressions, etc., etc., then finally they glued the one-piece temp bridge in place over all the partly ground down teeth. I was surprised it was one piece, not 10 separate ones. But that meant it went in quick and easy. And from any reasonable distance it looks real enough. Done!

By the time I left the dentist’s office the anesthetic had pretty well worn off; my face & lips felt normal. They fed me an 800mg ibuprofen towards the end to get out in front of the post-op discomfort. The rest of their pain management advice was Advil or Tylenol at normal label doses, whichever works better for you. Advised to stick with fork-cuttable soft food and avoid red food and drink until the permanent crowns are installed. Should be easy enough.

Stopped off for some soft non-red food (burger & tots), then home.

As I type it’s been 8 hours since they started the numbing process. My mouth feels a little rattled, like it had been in a no-injury car crash, but I think if this was gonna start hurting for real, it would have by now. We’ll see.

Next Wed, so 8 days, I’ll come back for the permanents. Modern tech is amazing.

Now to assemble a suitable non-red cocktail.

And a good afternoon to you. Been to the gym for the daily sweating, came home and snacked some calories back on, and am now planning to watch some TV for a bit before Mac-n-Cheese time. It’s 85F outside so I am not planning any outdoor activities, but mowage is going to get done about Thursday, so that will either be early or late in the day.

And onto the Elder (me) scrolls…

**Cookie** , don’t have one of those hand carts, but I do have a collapsible wagon that I use to transport soccer stuff from my car to the fields, and it is indispensable.

**red** , hope your SSN office is as cooperative and helpful as mine was (can’t for the life of me remember why I was there, but I do remember their courtesy and professionalism).

**Taters** , my pest guy doesn’t even come into my house, just knocks on the door to let me know he is here, then goes about his business. The termite guy does do semi-annual indoor inspections, however. And I think you are wise to take some time to consider what you want to do with the rest of your life.

**Pavo** , those are wonderful pictures. Hope mom and Baby keep doing well.

And after a 90 minutes TV and dinner break I’m back, as we resume our normal scrolling..

**Wet one** , the only good thing about fasting that long is planning what wonderful eats you’re going to have once it’s over.

Anyway, the damned things fought back - I have 3 stab wounds that bled all over the place…

**FCM** , your take good care of your plants and that’s the thanks you get…and a Chefs Salad sounds good.

**VanGO** , hope the time card system gets fixed, I know the frustration well, but that was 15 years ago, you’d think they could do better now…

**Coppertone** , good news on the hiring! Hope they have their Grand Opening soon.

**Pilot** , glad the dental visit wasn’t too unpleasant, sounds like you escaped with little to no pain.

My tummy is no longer crummy. I still have a temp but am hoping to bring it down by thinking about icicles and snow angels. I have a lot I want to do and hate lying around all day, so hopefully tomorrow I’ll be up to snuff. (Does anybody still use snuff? And why does the nursery rhyme advise giving the barber a pinch of snuff?)

I talked with my brother today. He said we’re just going to have to accept that we’re all getting older, nothing lasts forever, etc, which is a 180 from where he was not long ago. I’m relieved he’s not too upset, and I wasn’t even tempted to say, “It’s not the knees! She just can’t stand to be around your wife!” I appreciate all your wise words of advice. They helped.

Last night a Chinook helicopter flew overhead at the lowest altitude I’ve ever seen, definitely under 200 feet, maybe closer. I could see all kinds of details on it. Pretty cool.

These temps are a big improvement over the one size fits none stainless steel ones they used to use, even if you can’t eat skittles or corn nuts with them.

My birth mother was a staunch, rock-ribbed Portland Maine alum of a Congregational orphanage so that was what she knew and handed on. She not too many years later gave up custody of my brother and me and things got worse than Calvinistic Bible school hellfire and brimstone.

Didn’t happen, tho. **FCD** wanted a sammich, which was easy, and I had some of the chickie, etc, salad and yogurt with a handful of blueberries tossed in. Just finished my apple and peanut butter, and now we’ll either watch TV or not. And tomorrow, I’ll remove the bandaids before I shower, and replace them if necessary afterwards.

I swear, if someone doesn’t know me, they might suspect my assorted cuts and bruises were signs of abuse. Nope, just signs of klutziness. But I am glad my Dr knows **FCD** so she knows he doesn’t do this to me.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. Then nappage was accomplished. Then it was VBS food makin’ time. The urchins and adults snarfed down lasagna, sallit and garlic bread. Funny thing, someone wanted to leave the garlic off some of the bread in case some did not want garlic bread. That bread was untouched. 😃 The little crumb snatchers know the good stuff when they see or smell it. The snack tonight was a scoop of niller ice cream with star sprinkles with a “Martian” marshmallow that was on a skewer stuck in the ice cream. The “Martian” was a marshmallow that was coated in melted mint candy with an edible eye in the middle. Honestly it was kinda like a Martian minion. I wish I had taken a pic cause they did look kinda cool.

VBS times are all over the place around here. Some in the mornin’, some in the afternoon, and some in the evenin’. They were always in the mornin’ when I attended and the only foodlike stuff were those butter cookies with the hole in the middle that everyone put on their pinky and attempted to eat around the cookie (that never worked but we were persistent) or those coconut bar cookies with the ridges. We also got grape or strawberry KoolAid. Nowadays the waifs get lunch or supper it seems. VBS also has to have a theme these days. When I was growin’ up the “theme” was pretty much “mama needs a break and Lawd knows these heathens I’m raisin’ could use some extra Jesus.” It was also a M-F thing. Nowadays it’s anywhere from three to five days.

Partly ninja-ed by **Boo** but nevertheless …

The temporary is a hunk of plastic that was 3d-printed right there in the shop after taking impressions of my shiny fresh tooth stumps. Compared to real or prosthetic teeth it’s rather soft and porous. It’s also a rather unreal shade of Hollywood smile white. And hence stains easily.

A meal of marina and red wine means having reddish-pink teeth until they are removed. The tech warned me especially to avoid ginger and turmeric. She said turmeric will react with the plastic and you’ll have glowing neon green vampire teeth.

I might try that for dinner the day before my appointment to have the temp removed. Just for fun.

But the blue-labeled Gatorade Zero is a sorta clear liquid and tastes like 1960s cherry cough syrup. That was $5 for a 6-pack that went directly down the drain after spitting out the first tentative sip. I forget the marketing name of the flavor but “cherry” was nowhere in it. Uggh!

Sapphire Gimlet it was. Might have another; might go to bed. Decisions, decisions.

Bed wins. Cheers all!

So, Harry is still in the hospital. He sounds so much like Hubs “the doctors are just keeping me here to pad the bill!” that I have to laugh. I checked in with Mrs H today, she has family around and doesn’t need another casserole, no room in the freezer.

Besides that, nothing much has been happening here. Hubs went out for a ride and the fuzzbutts curled up on the bed for a nice long nap. I felt very alone and neglected!

We need another hummer feeder so I spent some time thinking where it needed to go while listening to the forest. The cicadas are still warbling, but not as loud as last week. The birds are much louder now, probably because they are so well fed.

I only have one more night of wearing the eyeguard, thank goodness. I didn’t mind the guard, but my skin doesn’t like the adhesive used on surgical tape. It used to be that i was OK with paper tape, but I’ve got a “burned” spot on my face now. Worth it. Totally worth it. I’d wear the dang thing for a month if needed cause being able to see is magic.

Oh, can you get some fake fangs to wear for the night? And a cape? Just for fun 🙂

Which can be both good and bad.

Our UPS driver has the FedEx guy trained. Today the FedEx guy pulled up in front of our fence, got out of his mini-van and then realized the he was blocking half of our driveway and got back in and moved forward.

Stouffers–the large size. It’s pretty good.

**Flyboy** , that’s a horrible story and I hope they catch that unprintable person before he can kill himself.

**nellie** , don’t push it, let your body tell you when it’s good to go. And hope the family firestorm keeps cooling down. And…

Dang, those things are loud when they’re 1000’ up, that must have been deafening. Well, at least a bunch of Green Berets didn’t rappel down into your back yard…

**FCM** , I’ve got a big blood blister on my left hand (size of a quarter), have no idea where it came from or what I did to get it. Hope your gardening scars don’t mess up your sleeping time.

**swampy** , I’m not a big fan of garlic on my food most of the time, but garlic cheese toast is one of those things I have to be careful with, lest I over-consume…

**Pilot** , green teeth sound pretty neat, long as it’s not permanent.

And need to do some stuff, so take care an I’ll catch all y’all in the morning.
