Oh, my. The fever broke during the night and drenched the sheets. Nothing daunted, I scooted to the other side of the bed. I drenched THAT. I wasn’t up to changing sheets at 4 AM, and I didn’t want to soak the sofa, so I just shivered–and slept, off and on. I considered canceling the hair appointment but ultimately trudged over there. Wrong day–it’s tomorrow. D’oh! I basically have to walk there and back (1.5 miles total), and about two blocks from home, I wished I had a handy bench, but I made it OK! Any ornithologists around here? A strange bird upped onto the windowbox on my balcony railing. It was about the size of a bluejay and had a crest, but it was black with a vivid yellow beak. It navigated the spiky strips that deter squirrels, pecked hard at the potting soil in the window box, flew to the spider plant, and repeated. Of course, it flew off before I could snap a pic. Started Typing: 3:39 PM ET Clicked Reply: 4:28 PM ET Yesterday was a good day: I felt fine, I made it through a bunch of meetings, neither commute was bad, I had entertaining TV to watch while eating a yummy dinner, and I started building the Sherlock Holmes book nook (Lego). I went to bed a bit later than I should have, but nothing egregious, and I’m not aware of sleeping poorly. Today, though, I feel like I haven’t slept all week! My eyes and sinuses are complaining – just a little, but still – and I’m tiiiiiiired. Not, like, falling asleep at my desk or anything, just noticeably low energy. I’m not usually one to have allergies, but maybe…? Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to bugging out of here in less than an hour. I plan to work on the book nook a little more after dinner, and will try to go to bed a little on the early side. Normally I’d work from home tomorrow, but there’s a big all-hands right before lunch that I should attend in person: so, I’ll drive to the office one more time this week. I’ll head home shortly after the meeting, though. I _hate_ shiver-sleeping in the clammy. Pro tip: beach towels. Big ones. Have a couple around the house. If you hot-flash or fever the bed, just lay a big towel on the wet bottom sheet, lay on that, cover yourself in a second big towel, then drag the wet top sheet & blanket on top of that. Takes less than a minute, then you’ll be cozy & dry. Late wife slept for decades on a beach towel every night. And often had to change to a new bottom towel sometime overnight. Her anti-estogen meds trapped her in perpetual menopause for 20+ years. I _know_ from drenched beds. Lots of store X carries only brand A and store Y carries only brand B. Coke & Pepsi seems to be one of the few exceptions in the snack / bad for you category. 😉 Congrats on free lunch tomorrow. As to me … Dropped the car off at 9am for a while-you-wait diagnosis. Good news is it’s a screw in the tread and trivial to plug. Bad news is rear tires are real close to wear limits. And the next couple months are our worst of torrential rain. The way I drive, tires w minimal tread are not good. Fronts wear much more slowly on these cars, so they’re good for awhile yet. Two new rear tires were ordered and I took a loaner car. Now near quitting time at the shop the new tires have arrived and are being installed. I’ll swap cars tomorrow morning. Those new rears and the current fronts should last until I’m ready to replace the car in a couple years. Or I’ll get 4 tires & keep the car. Hope to avoid what’s happened a couple times in the past where I buy new tires and sell or trade the car 1000 miles later. Oops. ---

I washed the bed linens, sat down, made up the bed, sat down, ran to the neighbors to drop something off, sat down, and am about to clean out the fridge, as the leftovers have gone so bad, I’m afraid if I open it, they’ll attack me. Hey everyone! I’m glad nellie is feeling better and did read and think about commenting but I got home late from the capital (I brought taco fixings and handed free tacos out to anyone who looked hungry). Hubs was going to grill a steak but his tenderizer thing broke in his hands so he had to use the pointy hammer instead. This upset GG muchly, he’s a cat of peace banging upsets him. Din has been et and cleaned up and the call of the needle is just too seductive. Have a great evening, catch you later…or probably tomorrow, I can see to stich after dark now. ---

Howdy Y’all! VBS is over for da bear. HOORAY!!! Tacos were a big hit. The little waifs snarfed ‘em down. Also the rain held off until outside activity was done. However I did not stick around that long. I left after cuttin’ up little watermelon wedges which were part of their snack. The other part was a snack sized baggie of gummy worms, a little moon pie, a snack sized Milky Way, and sump’n else I can’t remember. Glad I don’t have to deal with sugared up young’uns tonight. As to hurricane names, that’s just one more thing where I will never see my IRL first name. I will never find a key chain, miniature license plate or a Coke can or bottle with my name. Where is the sleazy law firm that can get me monetary compensation for mental anguish over that! ---

I was one of three of my name in my elementary school classes. We had 4 variations of Susan, but three of me. As a kid, whenever we encountered a tourist trap / souvenir shop, I’d scour the keychains and coffee mugs looking for one with my name. I was disappointed far more than I was rewarded. Not that I really wanted to buy or have the tchotchke. I just wanted to see my (very common name) in print. That almost never happened. I guess they made the keychains for the names popular with then-current 16-25yos, not then-current 5-9 yos as I was. Bastards. ---
