Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s cloudy and 60 degrees Ferret Height(16 degrees Cetipede) There’s College Handegg on tap, and perhaps some light cleaning. Spot has relented and is eating the wrong Nutro Chicken and Brown Rice. But this is after going batshit insane yesterday, trying to Donner Party me, and hunting things in my bed for nourishment(dust mites? hallucinations? Errands have been run. The teller at the drive-thru at the credit union seemed to be doing his best to burst into flames. I’d asked for the checks to go into savings but he put them in checking before realizing he’d goofed. No biggie - I can transfer online myself. But honest to goodness, he must have said “I’m sorry” about 20 times, along with “I could just pinch myself!!” and other similar statements. And not so much what he said but how he said it. Yeah, I should judge, but honest to goodness, he couldn’t have sounded more over-the-top gay if he’d tried. I’ve moved the money already - like I said, no biggie. I ran to CVS for **FCD** ’s meds, correctly opting to go inside rather than sit in line at the drive-thru. While in there, I noticed what used to be the Minute Clinic is now full to overflowing with Christmas crap. I’m guessing the clinic either wasn’t profitable or they couldn’t keep it staffed. And I just hear MIL get up. Guess I should get her drugs ready. ---

Good morning. It’s 46F and cloudy at the moment. This afternoon, the weather will consist of considerable cloudiness and occasional rain showers. After having fancy wheels and tires installed on his Jeep, the same thing happened to my son several years ago. Fortunately, he could feel the wobble while on the freeway and pulled off to the side before the wheel came completely off. This was five days after installation. Les Schwab (who did the original work) said it was his fault for not returning two days after the installation to ensure all the lugs were tight. We called bullshit and talked about sending a complaint to the attorney general office. They fixed all the damage and replaced the needed parts at their cost. My son never returned to Les Schwab again and, to this day, refuses to use them for any tire service. I think I’ll knock out laundry today, and I need to fill out my ballot. I didn’t do it last weekend, so I’ve got to knock it out today. ---

_Started Typing: 10:57 AM ET Clicked Reply: 11:44 AM ET_ I knew I was still tired from the week’s late baseball/work, but I didn’t wake up until 8:15 this morning! That’s firmly on the late side for me, and has meant that the morning has flown by: I took care of the doggy, approved my employee’s timesheets, paid some bills (yesterday was payday), and balanced Quicken, and suddenly there’s only an hour left before I need to head to the gym for personal training. I also posted a memorial for my mom on Facebook this morning. 💙 She was in the ICU for a week before she died, but by the time I got there she was already unconscious. I didn’t get to say goodbye. I’ll never forget the moment right after I talked with one of the neurologists and it hit me that she wasn’t ever going to wake up. But I’ll also never stop being grateful that my brother and I agreed on _everything_, from the decision to remove life support to the plans for her memorials. He actually fought with our father one day because Dad\* was the last to accept that it was the end, but he and I never argued. Talk about your silver linings! \*My father is gay, and my parents divorced when I was in high school. They weren’t in touch for a very long time, but a few years before Mom’s death they reestablished a friendship and Dad would often help her/help us with her. He provided advice, but ultimately had no say in any decisions: I had Mom’s medical and legal POAs, was the executor of her estate, etc. Whether to pull the plug was entirely up to my brother and me. _Anyway_, I’m looking forward to having a quiet day/evening after I get home from the grocery store (after the gym). I find it very stressful having strangers coming to my house to sell things, so I’m sure that anxiety added a bit. I went through that caused by psychiatric medications about 12 years ago. Actually, thinking waaaaaay back I had an even worse episode in the mid ‘70s when I lived in Boston. I still shudder thinking about it, but what I learned from both is that it is critical to talk to your prescribing doctors right away, in as few days as possible so those drugs can be stopped (or tapered off, whichever is advisable), adjusted or switched to different meds less likely to cause those symptoms. Don’t accept delay or “let’s just wait awhile and see if it goes away”-in that case find another doctor to consult. In my most recent experience that happened and I ended up having to have a neurologist rule out Parkinson’s, etc and confirm it was psych med related. Then I had to do an extended, very gradual tapering of the med which was not fun but eventually resolved all the very very worrisome dyskinesias. Then I of course have never again taken any of that class of drug again. I decided some level of depression and anxiety was easier to live with in the long run than the side effects of the drugs I took to attempt to relieve those. This site describes the myriad of dyskinesia that can be involved. It can take a doctor who likes puzzles to figure out and also one not overly attached to their ego if they are the one who prescribed the suspect medication. The Princess gets fussy about which of us serves the royal supper, but she’s just going to have to cope for the duration. I’m doing my best impersonation of a houseplant for most of the day, since I’m facing a tough schedule for the coming week, and DH is right that I need to rest up for that. Do need to get a Costco pizza (covers dinners for at least a couple of days) and haul Buddy in for bloodwork, unless I can get DH to get these accomplished without my participation. Slept in today, woke up to find stripey orange fur plastered against me. Since we got up, Buddy has pretty much been Velcro kitty. Tomorrow and Moanday, working 8am - 8pm. Tuesday (aka Election Day), 6:45am - God only knows, we can’t predict that in advance. Wednesday, back in at 8am. Not sure how long this gig is going to last, could end at the end of the week, could run to the end of November. We shall see. Nice bunch to work with and within 15 minutes of my home, so much better than some. I mostly take phone calls, and have only gotten one or two that were at all cuckoo or jerkish in a week. By call center standards, this is remarkable. ---

A couple years afterward, I realized I needed to get an objective overview, so I forced myself to read a book on it, even though I could only bear 3 pages at a time. As years passed, students knew less about it, as they were only babies on 9/11, and they said their parents wouldn’t discuss it. Unbelievably, my fellow history teachers barely touched on it. So I made a huge hallway display that included a 10-foot illustrated timeline; and sections on heroes of 9/11; the terrorists; how it changed society, and debunking conspiracy theories. It became a sort of Wailing Wall for paras, teachers, and staffers. Since we can’t bear to discuss it, we never get to grieve it, I guess. Sorry for that long me-ish response. **doggio** In the shop we call extension cords “electron hoses”, but that’s ridiculous. Got new lug nuts on the truck, very nice local auto parts place delivered, saving me a 7 mile walk. Well, I’m back. Coached three games, refereed two, ate way too many snacks (but got rid of my remaining Trick or Treat candy) and as a reward I get to do it again tomorrow (maybe not quite as extreme but still busy). The 10U boys won both of their games, 6-2 and 2-1 to move into the semi-finals tomorrow. The U9 boys had a wild game, they were ahead 1-0, then behind 2-4 entering the last quarter and came back to tie it up, then after overtime we went to penalty kicks and after 8 tries (5 is normal, but it was tied after that)…we lost. So only one team to coach tomorrow and will probably get a little more refereeing in too. Have eaten dinner and am still re-hydrating, not real hot outside (74F) but the sun was out and directly shining on us for a couple hours, so I’m nice and toasty.
