Welp, my son does not have water, and there is no ETA on restoration. It could be today, it could be a week. He melted a bunch of snow so he could flush his toilet.

I told him to come up here, but he’s having a sectional delivered tomorrow, so that’s a lot of back and forth miles.

In my opinion, the owners/property managers should be paying for a hotel room if water isn’t restored by today.

Hi all. It’s a hair before noon on Fri as I start. I’m presently on the train to home after a leisurely morning on the ship then hangin’ out in the lounge at the train station.

I’ll spare you the play by play, but much food and yaks and drinks and sun were had on Thu. A hefty fraction of the passengers went ashore to the beach, so the ship’s pool & sunning areas had some people, but not a crowd. _Tres_ restful.

One of the restaurants on board is called “The Test Kitchen” and is a really cool concept. Essentially they extended a restaurant into part of the ship’s actual galley. Or equivalently, they extended the ship’s galley out into the seating area of the restaurant.

So they have actual ~20x20 foot work areas where industrial quantities of yummies are being made & plated by a horde of chefs, with each work area surrounded by a bar where 20-30 patrons are sitting and eating their meal served by even more circulating staff. Some of what’s being made is what we’re eating, and other areas are making things for the other restaurants on the ship. And the whole décor is shiny glass and stainless steel. Neat concept and a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes.

The meal itself is a _prixe fixe_ style 6 course _nouvelle cuisine_ sort of thing that changes every day.

The actual meal started with a duck liver and mushroom _paté_ molded into the shape and coloring of a big portabella, plus some actual mniature exotic mushrooms, a bit of greens, with hot clarified butter poured atop by the server. Plus some sourdough melba toast to spread it on.

The next appetizer course was a small collection of 2 kinds of cooked peas with a soft-cooked egg yolk welled in teh middle and caviar scattered atop the whole thing.

The last preparatory course was a few bites of seared sea scallops, serrano ham, and roast pine nuts topped with a serrano ham broth again added tableside by the server.

For the main course you had a choice of a small beef filet mignon, or a small roast venison that was probably the anatomical equivalent of a beef top round. Topped with some sculptured bacon (!) and a _beurre blanc_ sauce; yep, added by the server on the spot. All sitting in a small pool of pureed roast squash. I had the venison of course which was lean and firm as expected but delicately flavored. A small loaf of just-baked whole wheat bread came alongside.

Next was a chilled and prettily-molded bleu cheese puree with roast walnut bits and a very dilute so delicately flavored honey sauce with some flowers in it.

Finally there was a special Valentine’s dessert: A heart-shaped mold of white chocolate mousse with a bright red shell of flocked milk chocolate, and topped with a small medallion of softened white chocolate with “With Love” stamped into it. All sitting on a thin rolled-dough cookie the same size and shape as the mousse heart. Aaaawww, too cute!!!

That, a glass of good champagne, and a glass of decent Pinot Noir made for an excellent and memorable meal.

The train is almost to my station, so I’ll hit [Send] here.

Cheers all. Happy Firday and weekend to us all

> This brings me back. I used to take three trips a summer to Cedar Point as a kid. I have so many memories there. My first grown-up coaster, the Magnum, which sent me running to Millennial Force. My Aunt spent hours persuading me to ride the Magnum, and once we got over the slow, tortuous ascension, I loved it and only wanted more.

We usually hit Cedar Point at least once a summer, along with King’s Island. I liked the coasters at KI better, but the Corkscrew (and yes, I rode it when it was new) was my fave at CP.

In many areas, local law requires lack of water past 24 hours a codes violation and the owner can be fined and/or be required to provide other lodging for the duration. He may want to check out his local codes office.

Hugs to you **JtC**. I’ve said it before, but dementia truly robs us of the people we love.

Your quilt project, as usual, looks challenging and fantastic **hippy**. Happy quilting!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted (and lunching), KP done, last load of laundry in the dryer and only floors remaining for houseirk. I’ll do the menu planning and grocery shopping shortly. If it doesn’t rain, we may make another trip to the dog park.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m assuming you’ve communicated this, in those exact words, to someone higher up the food chain? Especially the last sentence.

Unless higher-ups don’t actually care if the application is done on time or not … ?

Me, too!! The perfect college pet: small, easy to feed (if it’s healthy for you, chances are it’s good for them) and don’t have to be walked on a set schedule.
Bonus points for being smarter than your average roommate, and can provide last-minute teaching experiments for that science project you forgot was due. (“Push this button for a treat.”)

I still hold the memory of a few extra special ones in my heart, all these years later.

For the record, what I have now aren’t those. I call them “ratties” here, because 92.5% of people don’t understand or care about the difference, but what I raise now are African soft-furred rats, which are a completely different (and only partially domesticated) species.

The differences between them and “regular” rats (e.g. fancy/pet rats) are fascinating.

Mention of Cedar Point confused me at first, because of [this](https://www.cpfcu.com/) - I do business there.

Two loads of laundry done, one in the washer now, one in the dryer. **FCD** just left to pick up his mom’s meds and take her some bean soup. Daughter wasn’t feeling well, so she’ll be over maybe tomorrow to do her resume. All in all, pretty quiet hereabouts.

I got lucky - due to a cancellation, Higgs will be going to the vet on Moanday. Here shots were due today and I kinda kept forgetting to make an appointment. But when I called today, the Fates smiled! She won’t think so, but I’ll be glad to have it taken care of.

So, it’s already afternoon and I haven’t decided what to make for supper. We have shrimp in the freezer - maybe I’ll steam 'em. I’ve got time to make the choice.

**Last Night Shoe** got lit, turnt up the music, and washed ALL the dishes. I’d like to thank her, cuz my kitchen is so clean!
(Minus all the stuff that’s gotta be put away, but that’s a far easier chore.)

Tossed out birdseed, corn, and peanuts for the neighborhood horde outside.
Local squirrels come in brown, gray, and black. Hard to see in the pics, but here’s today’s local entertainment:

Oh yeah, I got that from the git-go.

I was just thinking that with that little guy’s extreme ambition from a tender age, **Romeo** was gonna find himself ousted by a precocious toddler next week, not by a strapping young teenager in 3 months.

Well, &@#$!%. When I awoke at 6 a.m., I felt like I had something in my eye, and my vision was a little hazy. I kept using artificial tears, plus my usual morning steroid and anti-glaucoma drops. No change. I’ve had recurrent iritis, which, if not treated pronto, can cause corneal graft rejection.

I called the eye clinic, explained the symptoms and that I have a history of corneal graft rejection, and asked to be seen today. The clerk said the first available appointment was 3/1. Uh, that’d be too late. I asked for triage, and that person put me in late this afternoon.

I do not want to go. At first I thought I’d just increase the frequency of the eye drops, but it’s Friday, and if I can’t get this under control, I’d have to wait until Monday to be seen. Corneal rejection is ~~zero~~ negative fun. I was hospitalized for it twice. I can’t risk that. I didn’t put a contact in that eye today. I think instead of taking the bus, I may just take an Uber.

Thank you for listening to me whine. I’ll try to adult better later on.

I got home, launched laundry, then headed out to get some groc items, get the car washed, drop off my dry cleaning, and pick up my mail & packages.

Also visited the dentist for a crisis that proved to be a false alarm. Like I hope **Nellie** ’s turns out to be.

Wed night on the boat I suddenly had a very sharp spot on an incisor. Which was tearing up my tongue. Looking in the mirror suggests I maybe chipped a bit off one tooth. Ugh.

So Thu morning I called my dentist knowing I’d be home Fri noonish and it was either then or wait to Mon. They said they’d squeeze me in Fri aftwrnoon as long as I was ok to wait. Sure! They’re sweet folks.

So by today the problem seems resolved. But I go anyhow; better safe than sorry. After awhile waiting the Doc pokes around in there; all’s well.

I probably dislodged a bit of calculus which was sharp, then later dislodged it enough to swallow it unnoticed.

But being proactive with minor medical issues approaching the weekend is smart. Doing the same w MAJOR medical issues like eyes is genius.

Anyhow, I just finished a lobster roll and a chardonnay at a nice early happy hour. Off to early music and perhaps dancing and more food next. Plus maybe a third stop for later music & dance. Friday night in the Big City.

Hushpuppies, fries, and slaw rounded out the meal. We were, and still are, stuffded. Needless to say nappage was had upon arrival back at da cave. Our scurvy and malaria were flarin’ up so gin and tonics were needed for medicinal purposes.

Evening all. The whirlpool at the gym was out of order, so I went ahead and swam my mile all in one go, took me 57 minutes so slightly better than 1mph. Still would rather have the break in the backstrokes, but nice to know I can do it if I have to. Been slothing the evening away, got some stuff in the mail from Amazon (stopwatch and small flashlights) and stopped (I hope) the last paperwork bill that I have been getting (been paying it on-line for a year or more but just never shut off the paper until now). Big Bowl O’Sallit will be the evening repast and will head off to bed earlier than usual as the Leak Detection folks are due tomorrow morning, so of course I will get up way too early.

**Pilot** , that’s not a bad idea with the phone, but I’ll have to develop the habit for it, most of the time it just sits inert on my counter (at least I know where to find it). Being something of a Luddite and not getting that many calls/messages on it just reinforces not using it all the time (as apparently the rest of Civilization is doing). But I will try it.

And glad the tooth problem was minor

**Hippy** , that’s quite an object to shoot for, best wishes for now on project 4. We’ll expect pics in a few weeks when finished.

**Spicy** , enjoy the privacy. And thanks for the memories.

**Taters** , hope it works out for son, and concur if he is a renter/lessee, the owners should be taking care of him.

**Pilot** , that sounds like quite the enjoyable cruise, I can understand why you are going back for Round 2.

All the mention of laundry had me looking at my stock, looks like I’ll be doing 4-5 loads or so around the middle of next week, haven’t decided if I’ll do the laundromat thing or just turn the water on for 4-5 hours and eat the extra gallons. We’ll see.

**shoe** , that’s a marvelous picture.

**nellie** , oh no, not the eyes again! Hope that something good came of the Dr. visit. And YOU NEVER WHINE!! You have problems, you talk about them with your friends, and we listen. End of line.

**Wheelie** , hope word of mouth gets you more proofreading jobs.

**FCM** , enjoy Mr. Rainbow’s show. Never been particularly interested in him, but a lot of people do enjoy his stuff.

Take care all.

Well. I got my pay today for 4 hours, not as much as I expected. She gave me 1 day this week, and 1 next week. 40 dollars a week is a bare minimum to get by. My rent is 25, toilet paper about 15, buses 40. Coffee, 30. Don’t say thats not a necessity.
The place that hired me yesterday that I e mailed my documents to, said shes not sure they can use me because I can’t work past a certain time so I can catch the last bus home, which I had told her during interview… Also a food place all carb, pretty much only one item on the menu.
I interviewed at a sugar place today, he will let me know soon.
Also applied and interviewed today for laundry, housekeeping at the place my ex ( with MS) is at. They seemed to like me, thats a lot more hours, which is good.

Tired of the constant runny, stuffy nose for the past 2 weeks.
Going next week to get the tooth that started a root canal on over 3 years ago removed. Sad, but probably the right thing.
