As a former construction and building management dude I know you know this, but …
In a concrete structure drilling 20 apartments away to hang a picture can sound like drilling to tear down the whole building one apartment fton your own.

Howdy Y’all! I did duty and we got stuff all set up for Rose’s funeral, or as it is called in Whiskypal speech “burial rite.” We et at the hog trough GC and then achieved nappage. I cooked up the chikin that will be turned into chikin sallit tomorrow. I am takin’ chikin sallit sammiches (on King’s Hawaiian rolls) to the reception after the funeral. We did get one small rain shower this afternoon. Thus has it been in swampland.

**Yanker** it warms the cockles of my heart to know Lucy is so helpful. Glad y’all get to have dinner with the eldest. Smart call on your part re the RV. Yay for no surgery at least.

**MOOOOOOM** glad FCD is likin’ the new gig so far. I looked up banoffee pie. I do believe there shall be one in my not too distant future.

**Pilot** we do intend to make sure Rose has a good send off and gets plunked down next to her beloved Roy. Sometimes ya just gotta let the pros do stuff for ya. Hope the new terlet seat is comfy. NMCNMM = not my circus not my monkeys.

**sari** makes sense to reschedule the appointment because you need your son to assist. I do hope he’ll realize gettin’ his dl is a good idea however.

**MetalMouse** good luck findin’ out what’s goin’ on with the ears. I really should look into hearin’ aids. So should OYKW. Way more WHATS are said around here than should be said. Have fun at the ball game.

**Hippie** yay for the free beer score. There may or may not be a very pissed off town drunk, however.

**JtC** I know you would rather he hadn’t but yay for GG’s brain cells rubbin’ together re doors.

Thinking back on it, I haven’t lived in an apartment building since I was nine years old. I do remember my mother pounding on the ceiling with a broom handle to quiet down the upstairs neighbor. But yeah, I’m finding out just how well sound carries in a structure like this. Nearly every evening we hear what sounds like someone dragging furniture across a floor. Even management can’t explain it or figure out where it’s coming from. Makes me long for our house in Portland at times.

Oddly enough those are exactly the alarms I bought 4 of at Costco. Maybe I ought to take them out of the package and install them, do you think? It’s been over a year. I’m too old and rickety to be climbing ladders with a drill or screwdriver in my hand and handyman services around here would charge me over $75 an hour, so there they sit.

It used to be that firefighters would offer to install fire alarms (or replace batteries) for seniors or people with disabilities, but that went by the wayside 4 or 5 years ago when taxes went up and services went down.

From the feds:

…. Part B (Medical Insurance) **Outpatient care**. Home health care. Durable medical equipment (like wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and other equipment) Many preventive services (like screenings, shots or vaccines, and yearly “Wellness” visits)

Maybe your doctor doesn’t do the cursed annual wellness visits. Have you gone in for your checkup or physical and tried to tell them about a problem you’d having and they tell you: “you’ll have to make a specific appt for that”? Problems they discover during the check up or physical they’ll address, if it’s a Wellness visit problems you bring up are a different story.
**Medicare Wellness**

- Doctor will measure height, weight, blood pressure and other routine measurements
- Doctor will review your medical and family history
- Doctor will assess your risk factors and treatment options
- Review Health Risk Assessment questionnaire
- Updating list of providers and prescriptions
- Looking for signs of cognitive impairment
- Doctor will set up a screening schedule for appropriate preventive services

The Medicare Wellness exam includes the assessments, but none of the “physical” tests where the doctor has to physically touch you. Under Medicare, a doctor will only perform these types of services if there is a specific diagnosis or symptom which necessitates that type of examination. Other preventive services will be scheduled, but not performed, during your wellness visit. You can find a complete list of covered preventive services under Medicare [here](https://www.communitycare.com/DynamicFile/MedicarePreventiveServicesCheatSheet.pdf). If you have more questions regarding Medicare coverage and what services are covered, you can contact our [Care Coordinator](https://www.communitycare.com/contact/) at 518-782-3800.

ETA: that got all screwed up. I must have hit the wrong button. I’ll have to go back and start over. Sorry

While we were waiting for a call from NAPA, I noticed Goo has a wound at the front base of her left ear. I think it must be new, since I didn’t notice it all day. We’re going to keep an eye on her over the weekend, and take her to the vet if it doesn’t heal.

I got Yum Beef salad (5 star) from the Thai place on the way home, as well as a Thai iced tea for The Missus. She had a tuna-and-egg salad sandwich for dinner. I made it earlier today. Goo and Abbey got the tuna juice.

I looked it up too 🤣. Sounds heavenly. Must be a southern delicacy because I’ve never heard of it in the Midwest or Boston. I agree, they are great and you need to grab them when you can. A historic orchard 50 miles away from me grows them and every year if my daughter takes the kidlets down for their apple festival I ask her to bring me back a peck bag.

There’s a vintage apple I found years ago around Massachusetts called the Macoun, it is the best eating apple I’ve ever had but I’ve never found it in the Midwest. If you ever do, dig in.

Macoun, but sometimes also pronounced either "Ma-coon" or "McCowan") was developed at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, by Richard Wellington. It was first introduced in 1932, and is an eating apple. This apple is excellent for making European style apple pies because it doesn't break down during cook Aside...

> **Sticky Buns** , as a substitute teacher many years ago, just remember that it usually means getting up real early (they sometimes call you around 5am), probably not having a lesson plan, and having a group of kids (especially middle school age) who see you as “fresh meat”. But if you’re ready for it, then give it a go.

Well, I wake up at 5 every morning no matter what. But, lots of subbing is part of an automated system now where you can pick your jobs in advance. As for the rest, I excel at improv and I’ve taught kids with significant behaviors for years. What’s more, I already know that I’m fat, so insulting me as such doesn’t really work.

The other thing that doesn’t work for me in a classroom where I am the full-time teacher is having parents bash me on Facebook because I said something to them to trying to help their child. Or, having parents think that their child is a rocket scientist when, in fact, they don’t know basic addition. But, go figure, last year’s teacher insisted they were really advanced and ready to bust out of my type of classroom. Or, when you have a kid bite your arm because they don’t like that you are insisting that they be safe around their classmates. But then their parent accuses you because you must have done something wrong to incite them to this behavior. Or maybe when they throw a chair at you a the parent thinks that obviously you’ve done something wrong because they would never act like that. Oh, and don’t forget you’ve got to get all of the paperwork just right and answer all the calls and emails as soon as you get back from getting your arm cleaned up and bandaged at the nurse’s office. Otherwise, I mean, mom and dad might not know what’s going on.

This is, of course, no offense to you, but these things really happened and continue to happen in classrooms everyday. And, like I said, I can do improv and insults with the best of them. So, if I need the work when fall rolls around, I’ll probably opt in. Again, I’m not ranting at you. I’m just a bit sad about the situation in general and the ridiculous bullshit that teachers have to handle these days.

Ok, rant over.

Back to sunshine and lollipops! It’s been a pretty good day here. I got some work done and I managed to even sort out some of the junk that is hiding under the stairs. So, yay!

All of that is indicative of a detector _almost_ clogged w greasy dust. They become hypersensitive to any / everything that vsguely resembles particulates or obscuration.

Or at least being Mr. Bigglesworth. And when Mr. Bigglesworth isn’t happy … people _die!_.

As to apples …
IMO there are no red apples left that haven’t been destroyed in pursuit of a higher sugar content / sweeter flavor.

Apples are not supposed to taste sweet. Period.

Granny Smith remain largely undestroyed and so are my go-to cultivar. Y’all can keep the red ones that taste like Cap’n Crunch.

As to me …
Having a big evening here. Phone about dead; details tomorrow.

**Mrs. L.A.:** Do you want to ride your bike Saturday?
**Me:** That sounds like an idea.
**Mrs. L.A.:** If you mow the grass tomorrow, you can ride your bike Saturday.

I’m not sure how a car would make a difference **Pilot**
If anything, the back seat of a car is probably smaller and tighter.

I forgot to ask my PCP if she can sign the papers for a handicap tag. The orthopedic and pain doctors don’t do that.

Today is the first day in months that I didn’t take a nap.
Probably why I am so sleepy tonight.

I’m sorry for your experience **Boo.**

I can’t do telehealth with the pain doctor because I have to take my pills in so she can count them.

I’m glad Nelson gets to have fun at the dog park. Hardly anybody goes to the one here anymore. My pups still love going even though it’s usually only us and Petey

I bet you could call your doctors office, ask to speak to their nurse and ask him/her to get the dr to send in the paperwork to your state motor bureau. It’s a simple form, easily done on line. Easier in fact than the doc filing a prescription on line. If you can’t always get to the drs because you don’t have an handicapped tag you shouldn’t wait til you can get in to the drs to start that simple process in motion. Heck, would surprise me a bit if the doc hasn’t already authorized their nurse to file those HC tag request with the doc electronic signature using the nurse’s discretion and judgement for established patients like you. Especially for a temporary 6 month tag.

It’s very unusual that an orthopedic doc wouldn’t be willing to file HC tag requests for patients. Kind of by definition their patients are very, very likely to need them. Orthopedics creates the need for a large proportion of handicapped tags, whether through injury, arthritis or post surgery. Ask again, call their nurse too. Never hurts to ask.

I don’t know what make of truck you have, but I have never seen a truck bed much less truck passenger seat as low to the ground as the seat of virtually any make of car. The opening of the trunk of a car is much lower than the opening of the tailgate of a truck. Same for a hatchback, still lower than a truck bed.

In all my years of home health nursing I never saw a car with a back seat too small to load a folded walker.

If you have a rollator style walker with 4 wheels, a seat and accessories, that be too heavy and bulky to easily load. Shop around for a slimmed down foldable walker without all the bells and whistles. Check out a medical supply place for the lightest, least bulky folding lightweight walker. I had one I used for several years that folded down into a square that was 4” x4” square and maybe 30” high. I could load it into my car one handed.

Evening all. Back from the ball game, left in the mid-8th inning when it was 10-6 for the home team (just looked and that was the final). Was a nice night out, but not charmed by baseball anymore, I was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1980’s, especially as I spent a lot of time in the left field bleachers (our motto/chant was: Right Field Sucks) where the fun was what we made ourselves. Now it all scoreboard wizardry that tries to program us to cheer and that takes away some of the game’s spirit. Plus, even with the pitch clock now baseball is still not a fast game and after coaching soccer for 25+ years I’m used to games that move right along. I’m glad **Wheelie** and **Pilot** enjoy it as I’m sure others do, but it just doesn’t interest me much anymore.

Plus, parking was $10 and a cheeseburger/fries/Pepsi and a later Big Pretzel/Pepsi set me back nearly $40, or twice what I paid for my seat.

**Hippie** , thanks for the tips, might go looking for a couple new ones.

**JtC** , hope the last driving is trouble-free tomorrow. And GG will be most happy to be somewhere that is not moving. Hope the weed holds out.

**red, BBBoo** , will keep an eye open for the Braeburn apples come Fall.

**Sticky Buns** , no offense taken, not aware of your teaching history so do what you are most comfortable with. Hope the pay has improved since the 1970’s…

**Pilot** , Granny Smith was the go-to apple for my Mom’s homemade apple pie, but never was around my house as an eating apple…go figure.

**Flyboy** , walked right into that one, didn’t ya? 😉 😀

OK, it’s after 10pm and I’ve had about all the excitement I had planned on for the day, so time to head off to bed. Catch y’all on Firday.

Agreed. I can’t bring myself to eat a red delicious unless it’s likely to be the only apple I’ll see for a week. Red delicious (and yellow delicious for that matter) are the pringles of apples.

Braeburn and Macouns are red, but older fashioned and on the tarter end of the spectrum. Heavenly with peanut butter or slices of good cheese.
