Cinnamon Raisin Bagel, good. Raisins in oatmeal, good. Gorp..meh.

Raisins in a cookie…they’re just hiding, pretending to be chocolate chips.

**Red** Sounds like the move is progressing fairly well. Hope it continues in that manner. Also wise to ditch the yard shoes, you could always claim it as “I thought it might be good for you to have some junky shoes for the garden.” And work on the RDOS.

This doesn’t sound good. It seems too fast to be entirely upending our life to have a stranger enter your house. Especially from 2 things you said: you like it private, and you don’t speak the language. Plus it seems you haven’t met the kid. Now I’m a social moron, but even I can see there are problems here.

ETA Damn, y’all are quick.

Aaah. Very different from what I’d gleaned from your first message.

The closest experience I can offer is about 8 (!) years ago my wife and I offered our spare bedroom to our then ~27 yo niece who was returning from living overseas for ~4 years. The idea was for her to stay with us no cost while she went through the process of getting a local driver’s license, a car, a job, a place of her own, etc. A few months maybe.

At that time my wife was well into metastatic cancer but fairly healthy and adequate energy on a day to day basis. Niece was known to be high strung and brittly difficult, but inherently a generous spirit with a heart of gold. We had never had children of our own. What could _possibly_ go wrong?

Turned out to be about the funnest 6 months of much of our later lives. She injected so much youthful energy and optimism into our humdrum disease-dominated existence. And we really got to know a big fraction of our extended family that prior to that was a Thanksgiving and Christmas acquaintance.

I bet you’ll find the same thing about your exchange student after a couple of early hiccups. As Churchill said, we have nothing to fear except fear itself.

You can do this and enjoy the doing.

That’s really sweet!

Yeah, I keep reminding myself that this is not one of those deals where a non-custodial kid gets sent to live with a family member because they’re dysfunctional. The fact that the young lady is in the program is proof that she’s highly functional.

::ramble:: You know there’s a sequel to Waiting to Exhale? It’s called Getting to Happy, and there’s a running joke in it – or at least, I thought it was funny. Savannah (Whitney Houston in the movie of the first book) gets a call from her sister with the five kids. Can Savannah take in GoGo, one of her kids, for the summer? Okay, which the hell one of her spawn is GoGo, and is that a boy or a girl? A boy, and he’s A Lot, so – Well then, why should Savannah have to deal with him? And it goes back and forth for the rest of the story. She won’t send him. No wait, now she has to. Okay, no she doesn’t. Okay, maybe he can come out. Oh no, not necessary. Gah.::ramble::

Anyway, this isn’t that. This is something regulated, and that we can tap out of if it’s truly necessary, but that no one has ever _found_ it necessary to tap out of. Much more chance of a positive outcome than if it was my sister’s wayward child.

Also, **Paintcharge** , she has to be fluent in English if she’s in the program. I meant more like, maybe we can learn The Language from her.

Good evening all. Did make it to the gym so of course the soccer game went to overtime so I sweated more calories off than I intended. The bonus was I gave myself an extra Little Debbie mini-apple pie with dinner, which was quite good and am working on a cup of sugar-free chocolate pudding (I can’t thank **shoe** enough for mentioning those) as a chaser, so well-fed and still below my calorie goal. Got my home insurance bill and it went up about $150, not quite enough to make me look elsewhere but just another expense. Will get it paid in August when it is due. The bad weather for the day was 60 miles east of here so while it has been cloudy, no real rain has fallen.

Entering into a scroll trance…OOOmmmmmm…squirrel!

**FCM** , the MSC app was OK, I didn’t use it a lot but none of the problems your having and I don’t recall anyone else in my group complaining. By all means when they ask you for your opinion/ratings, let them know. And I tend to pack like **FCD** , always carry to much stuff.

As for his mindset, it sounds a lot like my brother’s, he will use a cane but will bite my head off if I suggest anything.

**Rilch** , I can be of no help being a life-long bachelor, but **Sensei** , IIRC, hosted a German exchange student not so long ago and his daughter was one also, so he might be able to help. And filling out applications can have consequences.

**red** , haven’t asked, how is Nelson doing with all the packing and moving stuff?

**Sensei** , yeah, folks from the Mediterranean area tend to be…vocal and arm-waving fans. I worked for several years on a program in Greece and often said if you cut off a Greek’s arms they would be unable to speak. Hang in there. And note the messages from rilchiam if you get a chance…

**Pilot** , happy trip planning. Oh, and…

As to cruise apps, the Virgin one is less less flaky than **FCM** reports, but not hugely less flaky. And per the customer service crewmembers is commonly the target of many negative passenger reviews. And yet it persists in its awfulness.

FOr the second day in a row, I got a migraine aura–no migraine pain, fortunately. I’m on preventative medication, so this is rare. I wouldn’t mind if it took real migraines from my son. Anyway, I walked Charlie. He’s easy-peasy. I asked his person if she could set out cat treats. I have my own treats for dogs, but when I give Charlie his final good boy treat at home, the cat assumes the expression of a Dickensian waif and I feel bad. Anyway, their person said she would.

My back is…well, let’s not discuss it. In fact, let’s snub it. Maybe if we ignore it, it’ll just go away. Of course, then the back of my front would become my back. 🤔

That’s me with American football, and I was married to a freelance football reporter. If asked, “What’d I miss?”, I babble stuff like, “So their quarterback called a roto play with a reverse skim pass, but their chin tackle pulled a double-dip sneak offsides. 13 yard penalty, declined. Sixth down and 20. Pass me a brewski.” The key is to talk fast. Also, wait for several brewskis to have kicked in.

True confession: I like raisins. I like them in cakes, rolls, pies, cookies. I owe them. They make me look comparatively young.

**Rilchiam** , how cool! Which program is your exchange student coming from? I had maybe a couple dozen exchange students in my classes over the years, almost all of them via Rotary, which meant they all spoke fluent English. They were all great kids. Let us know how it goes!

**BooFae** , I should have added that I only catsat for people I knew in the complex. I hated charging them the going rate. Also, I had fun with their kitties!

Even stopped at the Walliest of Worlds (which is undergoing significant renovations and thus, _nothing_ is where it should be!) but I reeeeeeally wanted a particular kind of fancy yogurt, because I’m a speshul snowflake, and they often have it.

Thank you both for the feedback.

She doesn’t have to clean the litter box, it is automatic and all she needs to do there is check to be sure the yellow light is on. If the blue light is on, she needs to push a button which will make the thing cycle and let the yellow light come back on.

I am going to start paying her twenty a meal time. She has to catch the bus in the morning so that feeding is more of a chore than coming over after school and hanging out in the AC.

She mentioned that she’d never known anyone who had two computers (desktops) and mentioned how hard it was to do her homework on the school issued tablet she had. During the last move, Hubs had to have a very expensive (and super heavy) gaming laptop because of course he couldn’t leave Sanctuary unprotected for two weeks. Said laptop has been sitting in one of the back closets ever since the movers delivered our stuff.

Hubs set up an account for cat sitter so she can use that while hanging out with the fuzzbutts. (I put more pron filters on that one than I have on mine because it is so easy to accidentally click on a link and see things that would have been best left unseen.)

Despite being one of the laziest folks here, I love the feeling of slipping my clean naked body into cool clean sheets. Sheets here usually get changed twice at least twice a week. Not because we are working up a sweat on a nightly basis anymore but just because I enjoy it. It helps that the bed we currently have is so easy to change. I can change it out in less than three minutes.

I still have the switchblade I won in combat from a guy who was slower than I. He tried to stab me and I managed to grab a half brick and hit him across the bridge of his nose,

Past me hates current me for not suffering like they did.

I did see the coconut crabs when I lived in Hawaii (not native, maybe imported or floated there on trees) but didn’t eat one. They were protected and had poison parts. Not as much as puffer fish though. (expensive and not much different than thinly sliced cod)

There was a fire on the way home. Still, it only took me 2:50. I was surprised, but grateful.

Boo reminds herself to never cross **hippie** or look askance at his lovely bride. We grew up in the same Omaha but he was way south and I was way north. We had Rumbles in common but _not_ those kind of rumbles.
