We just saw an iceberg with penguins on it. Unfortunately, my tablet has not-so-great resolution so the pic on FB looks like a berg with dots. **FCD** got some better ones, but they won’t be posted till we get home.

But lots of icebergs here around the South Shetland Islands. And freekin’ cold out there!

Or not looked at it several times a day?) I rest our case. [dry erase notes on the bathroom mirror works too-you always look at that a couple times of day]

Hi everyone - Today my friend came over with his pickup truck and 3-1/2 loads later I’m out of the apartment. As I type I’m in a room at a nearby extended stay hotel for 2 nights, then Tue afternoon will show up at my new digs. And begin titrating in the very small percentage of my stuff (clothes mostly) that fit my hyper-limited space.

And I think I’ll sleep for a week. This has been both hard work and hard play.

Last night I went out to Brazilian Steakhouse dinner with my PCP. She had also been my late first wife’s PCP and we’ve been friends almost 10 years now. She used to come over to our place for dinner or we three would go out. She’s very smart, very sweet, but utterly not somebody I’d be interested in as a GF/SO/etc. And like most physicians, she has about 1 hour of free time per week; the rest is work and an occasional catnap. So a pleasant grown-up time was had. She and I had more, and more animated, conversation on more topics in our 3 hour dinner than I’ve had with Her Ladyship collectively in probably 4 months. Evidently I can in fact speak & be understood by at least some people.

> [@Misnomer](#):
>
> And I’m totally in the minority on this, but I actually understand Her Ladyship not wanting to hang onto any of your old stuff: she might agree that splitting is the best thing but it still won’t be easy, and she’ll already have the condo and things you obtained together as a constant reminder of what was. Frankly I wouldn’t want to keep any of your “before” stuff, either: getting new things would help me with moving on/a fresh start. Maybe that makes me all of the things that folks in this thread have called HL, but I figured I’d share an alternate perspective.

Oh, I agree with your perspective. Had I chosen to leave my, e.g. dishes, I’d expect her to replace them soon enough. As in once she got through doing some serious shopping as is her usual MO, carefully ensuring the colors and motifs align., etc. I would totally expect that and would do the same myself were the situation reversed and the thing in question was something that mattered greatly to me. So IMO, you’re not wrong; you nailed it.

What surprised me is: “Take all your dishes _today_ or I’ll drop them down the trash chute; I’d much rather eat off paper plates for a month until I find some new ones.” To me that felt gratuitously mean; Meanwhile she thought my idea of me leaving them for her _gratis_ as temporaries wasn’t me being gracious or generous, it was me being mean and controlling over her. And on exactly the rocks of these sorts of utter misunderstandings did our marriage fail.

Today she was 99% cheerful and helpful & totally civil. And her 1% wasn’t notably different from the little failed communication digs that were part and parcel of every day of both our lives for the last 2 years; nothing especially harsh. I greatly admire her for that.

The last thing she said to me was just about “I hope we can remain as calm and civil as today and work through this legal process promptly & easily.” To which I said “I agree completely; that’s my goal too. Thank you.”

I’ve said here before that I love her and respect her. That’s still true. We just go together like a fish and an accordion.

I did read everyone’s postings and only have brain bytes to offer encouragement to all for your various projects, annoying or entertaining cow-orkers, beastly weather, etc.

We’ve had two or three days of _de facto_ summer. Sunset is in an hour and it’s 80/27 under partly cloudy and slightly humid skies. Feels more like late March than late Jan. But that ends overnight tonight with a low of 52/11 and a planned high of 68/20 and breezy.

🫂 I still have one of the UT sweatshirts that my late sweetie bought for me (gotta fit in at Neyland Stadium on game day, yanno). It’s threadbare and has several holes after 15 years, but it still reminds me of him.

I’ve been messing around in the studio for most of the day. It’s a damp, 40F day out there with a cold wind, so indoors is the place for me. It’s back to irke tomorrow.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, got back to da cave and achieved nappage. Then an early sup got cooked and et and the kitchen cleanded up. A couple of rum and Coke Zeros were enjoyed whilst sittin’ on the back porch. Also, the biiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Netflix and chill comin’ up soon.

**red** if’n you go to Neyland make sure you also take a plastic mustard bottle, some golf balls and other assorted trash to throw. Gotta fit in with the other Rocky Flops. Also, might want to have a spare goal post or two in case the ones on the field get thrown in the river. One never knows.

Well, we did our best this weekend. Both of us have an unpleasant cold. I was sicker yesterday but I did manage to play an adorable game with **Spouse Weasel** and **Wee Weasel** called [Spots](https://www.amazon.com/CMYK-CMYK0001-Spots/dp/B0BJFJSS23). It’s the first game the boy is able to sit and have some modicum of self-control with. He doesn’t understand all the rules but he’s fine with following Daddy’s suggestions, he enjoys rolling the dice and placing them on the dogs, etc. My Aunt is a total dog lover, so I plan to bring it to her on our next trip with the little surprise that **Wee Weasel** can play along too.

My son’s obsession with weighing things on our kitchen scale goes unabated. He needs to know “How many grams?” for every one of his toys, and he’s rather obsessed with stacking and weighing the toy bins themselves, which means he keeps dumping all of his toys out on the floor so he can weigh all the bins at once. Sigh.

Today **Spouse Weasel** was considerably sicker, and I was wiped, so we parked the kid on the sofa and watched _Aladdin_ (really holds up well!) and then the kid discovered Bluey. We have no food in the house so had to order in, not my preference. What I would really like is some chicken coconut turmeric soup with rice. Hopefully I will feel well enough to make that tomorrow. I don’t even know what we’re going to feed the kid this week, we are so low on groceries - I think we’re going to need to schedule a grocery delivery tomorrow.

Finally, in my quest to spend less time on my phone (I didn’t pick a great weekend since I can’t move much), I started playing the PC Game [Dorfromantik](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1455840/Dorfromantik/), which is charming puzzle game and a good way to pass the time when you’re kind of lethargic. It’s challenging enough to keep me wanting to top my last score, but relaxing enough that you don’t feel a ton of pressure.

Tomorrow is the deadline for the grant application I’ve been wailing about, so it should be over by COB. Then all I’ll have left is MDHHS reporting, which hopefully goes smoothly, and I’m trying not to panic that I don’t have the OVW report yet from the lady who just went out on maternity leave. I’m just working on not thinking about things that upset me. (I’m definitely not going to check my work email on Sunday night. Nope.)

Evening all. Spent a couple hours at the gym, 750 calories burned off, which considering my meal at Texas Roadhouse was nearly 2,000 calories, made the day about a break-even, once sammiches and snacks this evening are counted. Probably run the dishwasher tonight when I finish this message and have it emptied to start the week. Down to 44F and the next few evenings will be down near freezing, but there’s no rain forecasted so I’ll manage.

**Oopsie** , glad you made it through the week.

**shoe** , I have pictures of my Mom and Dad from when they were in High School…few if any others know who or what they are, but I do. Crying over socks…those socks…makes perfect sense to me.

Just remember, it’s Summer in the Southern Hemisphere…

**BBBoo** , I tend to tape notes to the bottom of my computer to remind me of things. Have to remember that toilet idea.

**Pilot** , glad life as you hadn’t known it is beginning to take a rhythm of it’s own.

**{{Spicey}}** , hope you and Spouse get to feeling better soon. And fingers corssed all goes according to plan with the grant and the other stuff.

OK, dinner sammiches have been consumed so need tp get the dishwasher in operation. All y’all take care and if not before, I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

You are a very good friend.

I’ve been super entertained by Sky News lately. Actually, I watch it because it entertains me…weather people who don’t get excited over storms aren’t something in my world. But anyhow, they are reporting that while putting salt in tea isn’t an official diplomatic policy, the American Embassy **does** microwave their water.

These sort of little things you’ve dropped over time are why I haven’t been a fan of HL for quite a while. You are a good man who deserves some happiness. Sneaking around in the kitchen to make coffee in the morning doesn’t sound like happiness to me.

I’m glad you got your stuff moved out. I hope everything keeps going smoothly and that you will be flying off to exotic locals…or renting an apartment in Brazil shortly.

From what you’ve said, he’s a super smart kid. Teach him how to change the scale from grams to ounces and let him weigh everything again!

Would he understand how to set the tar yet…or would losing the weight of the first thing weighed distress him because he doesn’t know how to subtract yet?

I hope you guys start feeling better soon. Being sick with cats is a pain because they have to be fed, being sick around a child that needs more than a can of gooshy fud tossed in the bowl has got to suck.

That’s so hard to get past. Neither of you is doing anything wrong; you just have such utterly different perspectives on the world, different preferences and opinions … _and that’s okay_ in itself (hell, the MMP is a great microcosm of different ways of life) but you - and she - can’t change who you fundamentally are.
