Hey everyone, I’m home and sorely disappointed.

The top shelf adjustable lenses are out of my reach. Not because they aren’t available or because we can’t afford them, but my eyes didn’t react correctly for the doctor to be able to adjust them to more than OK even after 6 or 7 follow-up visits.

I asked for them three times and got turned down three times so I gave up. He’s the one who went to skool fer this, not me.

He did promise to get me out of my blue period\* and said that basically he could give me the eyes I had 40 years ago. That will be a very big improvement even if I still need reading glasses.

I’m scheduled for the 30th and then I’ll get the left one done in two weeks.

Despite not sitting around much at all, the whole ordeal was almost two hours so after stopping for a pretty decent Mexican dinner we got home almost an hour late for kittah feeding time. Happily both of them survived and were able to drag themselves to the kitchen for fud.

That sounds not-smart. Many hospitals in AZ have someone in a golf cart that drives around and shuttles patients to their cars and back. Come to think of it, I saw one of them when Hubs was getting his cath in Logan.

Maybe ask at the desk and see if they have such a thing. I don’t remember ever seeing any signs or anything, but I wasn’t looking for them either.

Are your windows something we should also start worrying about? Do you have anywhere to go if one lands close?

It’s good to know that it wasn’t just me. I just assumed I was too stoopid without my coffee to figure it out.

I have rarely been rendered speechless. All I could do was stand there with my mouth open and watch her walk away.

Hubs and I spent the entire weekend looking at the Brandawg and laughing our butts off.

Holy cow. Seriously, HOLY COW! I’ve had some nasty commutes in the past but that’s insane. You have my sincere sympathy.

That they know how to use. That is BIG. Back when Hubs was working, his “helpers” were all recent autobody repair school grads who didn’t have tools so would spend half their paychecks for the first year building up a good tool box. And then have the experience and tools to get a real job and leave Hubs in the dust.

We don’t bother with that.

\*Ophthalmologist joke. Monet had cataracts and the growth was evident in his paintings. When they were so cloudy he was almost blind, everything he painted was blue because that was all he saw. Then he had his lenses removed and started painting in vibrant colors again.

Gotta go, mom on phone, but remind me to tell you about the young love being set up at the stitch and sip group.

I got my first glasses in first grade, so 6 or 7 years old? I have one eye that is fine, in fact I’m not required to wear my glasses to drive. The other eye is…bad. My parents thought I was just clumsy, cuz I’d bump into door frames and stuff, but only on the left side.

I’ve worn glasses ever since, except through high school and the first year of college. Never underestimate the vanity of a high school boy. When I did go back to glasses I felt like I was drunk for a couple of days, with my brain trying to reconcile a new vision input.

Just back from golf league, it was pretty miserable. It’s been raining for what feels like a month, so the course was soggy as hell. On one fairway I had to step away from the ball–the ground was making squishy sounds and I couldn’t get any footing. We even got the cart stuck on completely flat ground. I’m frankly surprised they let us out on the course. I’d prefer to walk, but the league is strictly carts only.

Today is my friday, since I’m covering at the museum Sunday. Maybe I can get the bloodwork done tomorrow?

Do they not say ‘Cart Path Only’ when the ground is so wet? That’s what our local course does.

We were on the “cart path” between a green and the next tee. I put cart path in quotes because they aren’t really cart paths, just sort of the way everyone goes. No paving, not even any gravel. It’s a small-time operation.

Kinda cool in that they know your name, I haven’t played in league for 3 years, and the staff still remembered me. But I do wish they had more budget to do upkeep and renovations.

So for..reasons, I was shcduled to start 50 minutes after start time. So I got there early started work, and TPTB started blowing up my phone, because they apparently don’t look at scheduled. 🙄 I was loading Middle Red in the 300 today, then did the damages and clean up. And roommie sliped and fell on a floor mat at work, and hurt her (surgically repaired) shoulder, so a doc visit is upcoming. So not a lot of napping today. I’m having a Mai Tai.

It’s my right eye that is trash. I hit the right bumper of my car on the RV-port upright. No depth perception.

Along with getting your blood-work done tomorrow, call and get an eye exam scheduled. I’m sure it’s been a while for you as well.

I’m glad you are out and socializing again, that’s gotta be good for your health.

So after feeding the fuzzbutts and peeing and grabbing my bag, hubs took me to the store for the meeting. I felt badly because I didn’t think about snacks, but the other members had my back. We had (sto bought) tortilla chips and Pace salsa with a very nice sangria.

Half of the women there had had cataract surgeries and were happy to share their stories. One of them even had my same surgeon. All of them said the same thing: You are going to be so much happier when it’s done.

The sto owners son is a conventionally handsome young man who also raises sheep and spins wool. He hangs out with us and chats while using his drop spindle and then closes up the sto for his mom.

He’s nice, polite, well spoken and a very good actor who pretends that hanging out with us old ladies is the high point of his week.

Tonight one of the women brought her granddaughter who had just gotten interested in needlepoint. HA!

She had some plastic canvas, wool and a needle. First she sat next to me and soaked up my wisdom, less than five minutes later she was learning how to spin wool. Much whispered discussion happened and it was agreed that they made a good pair, he had “prospects” and her family had land.

Mom’s doing fine, thanks for asking. She remembered that I need cataract surgery which was pretty cool. She forgot that I have Hubs to pick me up from surgery which wasn’t nearly as cool, but also not unexpected. I’m looking 70 dead in the eyes and she was old enough to drink when she got pregnant with me.

We had our first not-quite-hot but VERY humid day of the year.
The older women on the crew, me included, were … not happy.

**Car(e)less** volunteered to go across the street to the Corner Sto.’
“ **Shoe** do you want anything?”
“A POPSICLE!!!”

… practically made out with that thing. Also tucked it into the freezer, and played “Ooh, I forgot about youuuuu!” several times.

Costs a dollar. Crunchy, low quality, basically sugar water with artificial flavor. (“Grape.” Does not taste like grapes.)
Brings so much joy to an overheated ~~overgrown toddler~~ grown-ass woman with no dignity.

The promised thunder-boomers are on their way. I can see ominous… pink (??!) sparkles on the horizon, and the sky just _growled_ at me like an angry dog, so hopefully this @$%^ humidity will get washed away.

Also the pollen. Every car at the drive-thru was _yellow_ and so is mine.
Even the lid of my trash bin is dusted in yellow powder.

Just to type that, the sky is … doing things … lighting isn’t supposed to be magenta, is it?

We went down the beach for dinner. (Grilled Caesar salads for both of us, mine with grilled chicken. Everything is house-made.) We faced the bay, and watched a seagull standing at the incoming tide line. Odd that he wasn’t moving around more. After dinner we walked around the building to the beach, and the seagull let Mrs. L.A. come right up to it and sit down next to it. She tried to give him some sourdough croutons (with nice, fishy Caesar dressing on some), but he wasn’t eating. He let her pet him. The poor guy was obviously sick. Mrs. L.A. tried to call a wildlife rescue number, but apparently there was no answer. When we got into the Jeep, I made her clean her hands with sanitiser. I don’t want any bird diseases infecting the cats!

For a while, Keurig was making their machines to only be compatible with certain brand name pods (the brand name pods had a chip on the top foil). IIRC, they got inro some trouble with the FTC and switched back.

My sister called earlier (before Mrs. L.A. and I went out for dinner). My ‘BIL’ (they’re not married, but have been living as such in California since the '90s) had a stroke on Tuesday. He’s not in good shape. He’s diabetic, and only has seven toes now. There’s a half-dollar sized wound on his foot, and he’s not compliant. Anyway, he _finally_ went to see a podiatrist on Tuesday and mentioned that his right side was weak and that he’d lost feeling on the right side of his face. Yep, he was sent to hospital. They said he’d have surgery Saturday, but now he’s having surgery on Friday. The car is unregistered because the s/n on the catalytic converter was sheared off in an accident. Sis can’t have the car registered until she gets it fixed. She can’t get a driver’s license (she’s 71) until the car is registered. So a lot of drama, because my sister can’t take care of herself and her ‘husband’ _won’t_ take care of himself. And all of my sister’s papers (diary, phone book, etc.) are missing. Drama. Wifey, RN says they’re going to end up in a nursing home soon. Sis has to fill out a form for the State of California and have it notarised so that we can collect our mother’s unclaimed funds… but she A) Lost the form with the rest of her papers; and B) Can’t get a form notarised until she had a valid ID. Sheesh! I _can’t_ do everything for her! I’m 1,300 miles away, and I have my own problems!

Anyway, I’ve transferred money from the San Diego rental house account to her so that she can get the car fixed, and transferred the same amount to myself because that’s the agreement.

A word of advice: Don’t have family.

**Flyboy** That sounds awful. Best of luck with the entire situation.

**shoe** Glad you survived the storms. Hope the electrons make their way back to you pad soon.

Apparently a very weird weather situation here. At the golf course we got a few sprinkles, less than 5 miles away a major road was flooded, and the high school had to cancel all evening activities because their parking lot was full of water. Oddly my house, between that part of the road and the school, was dry.
