(Old) Your first furniture in the MMP

The third episode of rain and boomers came thru last night as I was tableting in bed. It’s weird that when in my recliner, I start nodding off while playing my games, but once I head back to bed and tend to the pre-sleep routine (which includes scooping the cat box) I’m wide awake again, so the games come out for a while longer. Anyway, the storm was intense but shorter than the other 2.

We have a large branch on the oak right in front of the house that’s hanging by a wish - at least that’s how it looks from the ground. But despite several very intense and windy storms, it’s still just hanging. It’s too high for us to lop it off and it’s far enough from the house that it won’t hit the roof. We’ve already told Daughter and SIL not to park under it, just in case. If tree guys weren’t so $$$, I’d call one. We’ll just have to wait for it to give up.

Today starts wit 68 Ferrets, on the way to mid-80s and a chance of some rain. Once I’m done with my morning online routine, I’ll be back out there pulling weeds till I can’t stand it any longer. Around noon, FCD is going to help SIL clear the condensate line of their a/c, but I can’t offer any help, so I’ll stay home and paint the drawer unit he built for the boat.

Them’s all the plans so far. Busy day ahead, I guess. Happy Tuesday!

Morning all. Up early and have the donate stuff ready to go outside and am awaiting the whenever call from the HVAC folks (they said 8-12 in the AM). Need to perform mowage sometime today or tomorrrow and let my neighbors know I’ll be gone for 9-10 days, but will save the packing for Wednesday. Have broken fast with a big bowl of Rice Krispies so belly is happy. Not much else planned for the day.

I’m 2 miles from Kroger and 3 from Wal-Mart…that simply does not make sense to me, but then again, humanity is good at not making sense…

Lily, I try to keep my bookshelves organized, History on the one side and Science Fiction on the other, with everything else in-between. There has been some intermingling over the years, but I can usually find what I’m looking for.

doggio, I gain poundage every time I pass a Little Debbie display, they have so much stuff that is bad for me but I so much…

Cat Glove, glad they were able to get you powered up early. Haven’t done any apartment hunting in 30 years, but may have to in a couple more.

And onward into the day. Good 2sDay all.

Good morning, everyone. The US Soccer men’s team was soundly defeated by the Belgian team. I’ve tried for 25 minutes to say something about the controversy without being too political. NPR’s newswoman, facing the same task, somehow crammed “slippery slope” and “can of worms” into the same sentence. There’s a mental image for you, a can of worms on a slippery slope.

Our weather has cooled down a notch or two, down to a high of 85 Ferrets, mostly sunny.

lovely room!

i see wall art!

the new fish tank arrived yest. as i had it on the floor to unbox and organized, lager took the opportunity to flip the lid. le sigh.

tonight will be rinsing and water worthy test.

Good morning! My walking alarm thought I should get up at 4:30. I disagreed and gave myself another thirty minutes. Chloé and I saw four buns and a chipmunk. The sunrise was nice, too.

I went to meet Magnolia last night to talk about how their marriage survived their transition, and discovered I was a week early. I know how to read a calendar. I really do.

On the way there, I discovered that my car can drift. I have to drive on a lot of swervy country roads out here and I drive an Ioniq 6. I love it, but it’s so quiet that you can build up a lot of speed without noticing. I approached a curve too quickly and applied the paddle (regenerative) brake to slow down. The next thing I knew, my back end started coming around. Somehow, I kept a cool head, released the brake, and steered into it. I drifted perfectly around the curve, and I never want to do that again. I only wish I had worn my brown pants.

When we first moved here, we made a day trip down to the Ikea in Atlanta (It’s twenty minutes closer than the one in Memphis.), and we picked up five Billy bookcases with top extenders, which we installed in our front room. I then used what little woodworking skills I have and filled in the gaps between the walls and ceiling. Mrs Magill, with her superior painting skills, painted everything a uniform color, et viola - we had “built in” bookcases. Mrs Magill’s books are on one side, and mine are on the other. We also have a couple of shelves of cookbooks in the laundry room off the kitchen, I have a shelf full of gaming books in my office, and we have a couple of shelves of the boys’ books upstairs.

JtC - Mrs Magill could empathize with the boredom. The only saving grace about her leukemia chemo was that she didn’t have the energy to be bored. That was the only time I’d ever seen her sitting around.

Eww.

I first read that as “Sentinelese”, and was wondering how the hell anyone could have gotten a recipe off North Sentinel Island.

Knots - I’m kinda glad the US got knocked out. I’d rather get knocked out than have a win with an asterisk. I’ll save anything else for the Trump schadenfreude thread.

“Challenge accepted!” says Lager

On my walk, I saw a small dog, and a large rabbit. Surprisingly, the rabbit didn’t stop munching its dandelion and hop off.

Breakfast: Two slices of fried SPAM® and a slice of toast with a farm egg on it. The yolk broke when I cracked the egg, so alas, it was not over-easy. I put it on the toast and ate it out of hand.

Good morning.

It’s 56F and mostly sunny outside. The expected daytime high will come down to 80F, and it’ll be mostly sunny. We reached 86F yesterday, and by afternoon it was a little uncomfortable.

I have not really been paying attention to the World Cup, although I knew there was some controversy regarding Belgium and the US teams.

Lily, I love your study. And, yes, the yellow-jackets have got to go. They don’t like to peacefully coexist. I have my share of sting stories from those jerks.

Cat Glove, I’m glad your power was restored.

I spent yesterday transplanting the last of the plants that needed it. However, I now see I need to add some Japanese forest grass to that side of the garden, and will be heading down to the nursery soonish to get that done. I want to get it done before the kids get here and before my cataract surgery. I need the forest grass to add a sense of cohesiveness. I don’t know why I didn’t get any when I decided to work on that side of the garden. Oh, well.

Mollie, I’m glad the conversation with Fang went well.

When I said I was on my last pack of TP, I meant the last six-pack from the Costco pack. You know, those used to be bigger. It seems sad that even Costco has undergone shrinkflation.

Well, I suppose I should get going. Things to do, places to go. Please take care of yourselves.

Happy Tuesday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have a doctor’s appointment early this afternoon, so I shall shevel after KP so’s I can get some other stuff done before I go.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Seventh best day of the week!

We’re of the “art is to be seen” school, I’m afraid. I scattered some moth sachets around the area, which should deter the little bastards. Here’s a photo of all four. Left to right: Woman Fishing, Basket Weaver, Basket Weaver, and Carving His Own Face (which I find the most interesting).

Supposed to hit 90 today with some stormy weather coming. A squall blew through last night and was noisy enough that Sadie came mewing and looking for comfort.

I’ll probably do laundry later today. Wheeeee! The excitement!

Beautiful pieces, cookie! Kill them moths.

Catglove, glad your power’s back on.

Mollie, go, you!

Lager may need to be stopped with a brick atop the tank lid. Our cats (c. 1975) figured out how to fish.

Doggio, I haven’t had a Little Debbie in years, but I do like marzipan bars.

JtC, good to get stitches out, but realy don’t harm yourself!

Happy mowage, sew-age, and mileage all around.

I’ll do something or other with my lovely wife when she’s done with whatever she’s doing on her laptop. It’s sunny with clouds and weather says it will attain 71 ferrets, which means there will be 73.

Thanks for the love for my study. Show us yours!

Yellow jackets are nullified to the tune of $163, but the ED trip for multiple stings would run more.

I may mow the back 40, by which I mean feet, not hecatares or acres. I may assemble the treadmill. I may dust, or change the sheets. Goodness, I’m channeling my inner Moooom!

I will also continue my commitment to write/organize writing for 2 hours a day.

ETA: Forgot the breakfast report: Coffee with oatmilk; Greek yogurt with cherry tomatoes, chives, parsley, and a little black garlic salt; Ranier cherries.

My very first piece of furniture was a combination bookcase/desk, which I used for studying when I was in college. The next piece I bought, after I moved in with my boyfriend/now husband, was a dining room table and chairs from one of those Scandinavian teak places. The set was a floor model, somewhat scratched, so I was able to get it at a big discount.

We’re going out to sushi for lunch. I’m an Asian foodaholic, but am trying to do low salt. Sushi and sashimi with no soy sauce (or low sodium soy sauce) is about the only Asian food I can get away with. I’m looking forward to it.

Low volume day(25k vs. 35K+), but still lost of misssorts. Cleanup wasn’t too bad. One one our shop stewards became an organizer, so they had an election today to choose a new one. The Senior Clerk lost. 6 votes to 8(out of 200 people )
I had leftover beef stew, garlic bread, and a Little Debbie Banana Pudding Cake

Yay power!

As opposed to staring at things in meatspace and hoping it makes sense?

I keep thinking it’s some dude on the throne without a square to spare, just looking at the Amazon delivery update page to know when to waddle to the front door.

Reminds me of a Quiet Riot album:

But they are cool.

I have given up on reality making sense. I mean, have you seen it lately?

Had my exciting trip out the house for the day; went to the nearby supermarket. I opted to drive, rather than walk via the park, as I wanted to get ice cream and the walk’s a little long for it not to melt, only to discover that the freezer section is apparently being repaired or renovated or something and they had no frozen food at all. No ice cream for me. They did have my favourite cider though, so there’s that.

Well, have a new thermostat and less money, but at least I know the house won’t fry while I’m on my travels, and got to watch (another) miracle comeback in the World Cup, so it’s been a pretty exciting day so far. Now need to decide if I mow my lawn this afternoon or take the risk of rain and wait for tomorrow…decisions, decisions…

Mollie, you get the best morning pictures there are…I’m too groggy to even take one and besides I don’t have that great a view. And drifting in a small car…you take care.

Cookie, wonderful photo of the dolls.

doggio, well, did you cast a ballot in such an important election?

And the house is cooling down nicely and the new thermostat is even easier for me to figure out than the previous one. So into the rest of the day.

I managed to weed for about 2 hours, and while I was out there, Jason (our landscape designer) came by to look at the icky junipers. He couldn’t understand why some were looking great and others were turning yellow and brown and ick. He made some notes and he said he’ll send some guys with replacements when they’ll be working in the area. No rush for me. I was really impressed he showed so soon - I just emailed him yesterday.

I think I’ve done between a third and a quarter of the weeding. One of the worst sections is still to be done. I’ll attack that tomorrow morning. I also need to trim back some of the shrubs - I talked to Jason about that. I knew they needed to be done, but weeds seemed to be a priority. Progress, slow but steady, is progressing.

We had lunch at Salsa’s, then went to the boat to see how it fared after the storms, plus FCD needed some more measurements. Once we got home, I painted the carcass and drawers that will become the built-in tool chest, and I just finished. I’m thinking it’s time for some chillage. We may get some rain late tonight/wee hours of the morning. So with luck, I can pull more weeds in the morning.

But for now, the recliner beckons, and I’m thinking a little snack of ibuprofen is appropriate. Off I go…

Achievement “New Hair” unlocked! We found a style we liked. My sister approved. The shop will need to order the color we preferred, which more closely matches my salt & pepper hair. I should have it Friday. I’ll post pics later.

I’d also gotten my toes done to celebrate. I quite like the color.

Today was the first time in his life that Hubs has ever put a bra onto a woman. The front zipper was a real challenge!

The stitches are out and the surgical tape is a thing of the past. My comfort levels are much higher now.

I have a few more exercises I can do at home and I will be starting PT in a couple of weeks. I should be able to toss my restraint system in the trash then as long as my healing isn’t compromised in the meantime.

My surgeon took pics and his PA offered to show them to us. I wasn’t interested, but Hubs was so we both looked. Of course I have no real idea as to what I was seeing but seeing the stitches into the bone made my arm hurt.

The person who took my stitches out also spilled iodine down the front of my shirt so suddenly I wasn’t worried about getting mexican. Hubs had to cut my shrimp for me and I had to ask for a spoon but almost everything went into my mouth. I didn’t have any problems with the Margarita

There is a BIG difference between us. She was fighting for her life, I just had minor surgery to repair torn muscles. I’m glad she made it through so well.

Thank you, I do understand that this is a six month process and can’t be rushed lest I go back to worse than before.

I love your study Lily. We only have a few shelves of old favorites but half my closet is filled with needlepoint patterns and magazines.

The spot on my leg biopsy came back. Mild abnormal, so Im good. It was fine til I decided to listen to instructions and put vaseline on the wound against my better judgment.
It got irritated so no more vaseline. I thought sores were intended to stay dry to scab up. Doctors dont know everything.
Just treated the ferals.
Its normal weather out.
