Not in The Archers, certainly. It’s very much real time, my Mum’s been a fan for years. Being a radio show, it’s possible to do last minute changes, and add clips on the day of release, so it can feature current events, even stuff that happened that day in major cases. It’s noticeably more serious than other UK soaps, and tends to lay off the unrealistic drama.
It wasn’t always like that, to continue a minor hijack, when it started, it featured Nazi spies and all kinds of weirdness, considering it was actually intended as an informational soap aimed at farmers, as a fun way to spread info about modern farming techniques. Really.
This guy started playing Holmes in 1979 and, like Clayton Moore and the Lone Ranger, he continues to make appearances as the character, most notably plugging British-type products:
His Holmes films are excellent, BTW, and he’s even been awarded an honorary MBE. The theme music for the series can be heard on YouTube and is quite memorable!
Although he didn’t age along with the character (he aged into it), Louis Jones played Grandpa Jones from 1935 (at age 22) until his death in 1998, a good 63 years.
