Hell, how old is your gran? I’m much the same age and my grandparents (who lived pretty long lives) were all dead by the early 80’s.

Interesting question. I guess if the parents divorced and remarried you could have more than 4 living grandparents in a sense - but not going there..

I suppose someone around 40 would be lucky to have all 4 alive- certainly not me- my grandfather died when I was 6.

I believe Sarah Knauss who was 119 when she died in 1999, had a 96 y/o daughter and 75 y/o grandson living at the time.

I’m 64. My mother is very much alive at 83. (Her Daddy, my maternal grandfather, died at 98 in 1993, when I was 44.)

My great-grandma died at 96, my grandma was 73. Grandma lived to 92.

Both of Hubby’s parents are alive and living in their own home Pop’s 92 Mom is 90. Hubby is 49.

I had neighbors who lived in their own home at age 106 and 110. The husband worked the fields with a mule and she cooked on a wood stove. Their son and grandson were both retired, but, I don’t know their ages.

My grandmother died last November. I was not quite 58yo, she was not quite 108yo.

By God she voted though! Less than a month before she died. I’m assuming her 22nd straight Presidential vote is some kind of a record though. Even now, when a citizen can vote at 18yo, one would have to live to be 102yo to match my grandmother.

My maternal Grandmother died when I was 42.

My paternal Grandfather died in '42 when he was 42, 18 years before my birth.

My paternal grandmother died in 2007 at the age of 91. Dad was 73; I was 42.

My maternal grandmother also died at age 91. 🙂 She had sisters who were identical twins, and they both saw their 90th birthdays. THAT to me is quite remarkable.

I do see a lot of people outliving their children here, which is a danger if you have them and live long enough yourself. Nobody should ever experience that.

I know this is an older thread, but I found it interesting. My grandparents-in-law are 90 and 94. Their oldest daughter just turned 72. 72 with BOTH parents still living is amazing. As for the grandparents, February 9th will be their 73rd wedding anniversary. We are very blessed.

Geez these responses shock me. It’s hard for me to imagine people in their 30’s and 40’s still having a grandparent, let alone 50’s and 60’s. I don’t know anyone that old who still has them, but many of my friends my age still do.

My dad’s dad died 2 years before I was born at the age of 76.

My mom’s dad died just before I turned 8 at the age of 88.

My mom’s mom died just before I turned 9 at the age of 82.

My dad’s mom died when I was 15 at the age of 87.

Losing all my grandparents by the time I was 15 was pretty sad and I feel cheated. And I’m the oldest; my younger brother lost all his when he was just 12. My mom didn’t even know any of her grandparents. I used to think grandparents were just those people around in your life for a very short time and aren’t supposed to see you grow into an adult, but apparently for many people that’s not the case.

As for parents…I know some people in their 60’s whose mothers are still living.

AS an update, my SIL’s sister still has all 4 grandparents alive.

A woman who lives next door to me has to be in her mid 60s (her oldest son is in his early 40s) and she has both parents still alive.

One of my friends is in her mid-to-late 70’s and her 102-year-old mother just tried to renew her driver’s license. And she would have passed except for the hearing thing. She comes to church every week (no, they don’t let her drive) and is more with-it than my 89-year-old mom. Her grandchildren are in their 30’s and 40’s and the great-grandkids are in elementary school.

Again–don’t know if anyone still reads this thread, but throwing in an update. My grandparents-in-law are now 96 and 92. We will be blessed to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow with them. We are also planning a nice celebration around February 9th for what will hopefully be their 75th wedding anniversary. Their oldest living daughter turns 74 on February 1st.

In Terry Pratchett’s Discworld:
“A survey of the Guild of Merchants in the docks area of Ankh-Morpork found 987 women who gave their profession as “seamstress” – and only two needles.”
