I agree with you, OP. The issue was greatly exaggerated ‘digestive issues’. I tried it as well and never had any issues. But if you gorge yourself on it, there’s gonna be bad results like anything else. Gorge yourself on regular fried chips and you’ll have issues as well, imo. Thus in typical ‘merican fashion people couldn’t just enjoy the product within reason, they had to devour gigantic amounts of it leading to a perception that consuming it be anyone for any reason was a disaster. It’s certainly not the first product to fall in that way. The original Zicam comes to mind as well as others..
I suspect the people who gorged themselves on the 1lb (AKA “single serving”) bag of Olestra potato chips were used to gorging themselves on the 1lb (AKA “single serving”) bag of conventional potato chips.
The point of Olestra wasn’t to enable moderation. It was to enable immoderation.
The whole and entire point of Olestra, like the newfangled GLP drugs, is to enable heedless gluttony without the unwanted weight gain.
That’s actually not how the glp drugs work. They mostly work by reducing the desire to eat.
D’oh!
Thank you.
I was even reading along about those meds in the other thread about folks’ challenges with the side effects, but happiness with the results. I should’ve been able to keep that straight.
