Something I’m wondering about: When they remade Red Dawn in 2012, they shot parts of it in my neighborhood. I got to watch a few scenes. The original script had China as the bad guys, but after the Chinese government heard about this and bitched they changed it to North Korea (with the result that you had to suspend disbelief enough to accept the premise that effing North Korea had the resources to invade the continental United States. )
I wonder if this movie suffered a similar fate. Again, Chinese bad guys would have been at least somewhat more plausible than North Korean bad guys.
Well, China is certainly much bigger, wealthier and has vastly more resources than North Korea. I could just buy that NK might be able to mount an attack on the White House; I could never remotely buy that they might invade and occupy any part of the U.S.
Mount an attack on the White House? Even that is far beyond the reach of NK. Of course, even China would abandon them if they did anything seriously aggressive like that.
If some NK leader went seriously mad, and was bound and determined to do it, and poured serious resources into it, yes, I think they could. You’re right about China’s response.
