Whenever I get into conversations with people, most of whom I have just met, about television a conversation will invariably end up with someone saying how much they love Seinfeld. Me: Yeah, I don’t like Seinfeld. I’ve probably watched about 10 or so episodes; never laughed once. The reaction I normally get is the “OMG it’s the best show ever!!! How can you NOT like that!!!” I just don’t…not my kind of humor I guess. So what do you _not_ like that other people can’t seem to grasp? ---

I never got the all out love for Seinfeld either. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good show, just not “teh bestest evah” people made it out to be. It was no better or worse than Cheers, Newhart, The Office, etc. ---

When it comes to entertainment, a lot of things. I’ve gotten that “:eek:” reaction more times than I can count, but the primary culprits are my dislike of The Beatles and my hatred — check that, my loathing that burns within my soul as the fire of a thousand suns — of Office Space.\* A surprisingly large number of people, upon hearing one of those two opinions, will quickly label me pretentious, to which my stock response is that I watch every move Jason Statham makes. (I do.) Nobody yet has been quite sure what to do with that one. Personally, I couldn’t give less of a crap what other people enjoy, as long as they don’t imply that their opinions are inherently superior to mine. \*Great. You had to go and make me think about Office Space. There goes my pleasant afternoon. ---

Watermelon. It just tastes like God gave up on the flavoring. He was halfway done, and then the phone rang or something. Try living in Texas, where it’s watermelon season, and being Black. Then people think you’re making a political statement (Mom, sorry, you’re wrong; I just hate the way it tastes)… ---

Oh, another one: South Park. Never found it funny. Hideously ugly cartoon with the subtlety of a 2x4 across the forehead. I like most of the stuff SP fans like - a lot of the Adult Swim stuff, The Simpsons, Family Guy - but I fucking hate SP. ---

I’ve never seen a lot of stuff I am supposed to love. I don’t dislike it because I have never seen it. I’ve never seen the Simpsons for example. I haven’t seen about 99% of the TV shows on ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX since around 1995. I just watch HBO, History, Discovery, or other cable channels. So people are suprised I have never seen all these great shows. ---

For me it has to be both Scooby Doo cartoons and Star Wars. Anybody: “YOU DON’T LIKE STAR WARS???” Here’s my deal. I have the original program when I saw the first one in the theater in 1977. I was 6. I had all the toys, knew all the lines and actually loved Artoo and the Ewoks. Then I turned into a teen, years go by and here come three childish personal fantasies from George Lucas once again. Let’s face it. The whole story is a dumbed down fairy tale from space inspired only by the most obvious histories like Nazis (Empire) Farm Boys becoming heroes (Skywalker) and the good and bad are now the darkk side and the light side. A six year old could’ve written this. Yes, I’ll give credit to the visuals. Lucas certainly was a pioneer in special effects, but when a Calamari commands spaceships in space, Lando bumpin’ it up with the Ewoks and hear lines like, “This ain’t like dustin’ crops, boy”, I have to shudder. The light sabers make a cool on and off noise but it’s sword fighting for pussies. At least in the swashbuckling films the steel swords didn’t cauterize when they lopped off a limb, the victim bled! Remember blood? And the coup de gras has to be:[(click here, you already know what it is)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tim5nU3DwIE) I’ll take the “Alien” series any day. “Star Wars” should have a “For Children Under Six” sticker on the DVD. ---

Transformers. When the movie was coming out a lot of guys at work were talking about it and asking me if I was going to see it. And I admitted I had no real interest in Transformers. The thing is I work with a lot of guys who are in their twenties and thirties. They grew up with Transformers when they were kids. Transformers came out in 1984 - I was 23 years old. So I don’t have any nostalgic love for Optimus Prime. ---

And I’m of the age, I suppose, that’s supposed to want to see Transformers, The Batmans, Ironmans, etc. I’m not much of a comic or cartoon guy, and I admit to having a bias about any movies based on them. And yes I know, the movies are so great and it doesn’t matter if you like the cartoon/comic book or not… but enough already. Don’t screenwriters write original movies anymore? Oh yeah. CGI special effects leave me cold. I don’t want to see Pixar movies. Computer animation doesn’t do it for me. I like my animation done by hand in Korean art sweatshops! ---

Funny, I came in here to mention watermelon, too. Every time I’m back at home in summer and turn down a drippy slice, my mom looks at me in genuine confusion. “You don’t eat watermelon?” Yes, mom. I spent eighteen years living with you and _not eating watermelon_. (The same thing goes for stone fruits. People can’t believe that I don’t drool over peaches, plums, nectarines, apricots, cherries, &c. I don’t.) ---
