I agree with being “Meh” about Seinfeld and Scooby Doo and just don’t get South Park… but the one I get every summer is “how can you NOT like my beautiful tomato, perfectly ripe right off the vine?” Sorry, I don’t like them raw. Cook em up in a nice pasta sauce or even diced raw and marinated with some form of vinegar (think bruchetta, tabouleh, gazpatcho etc) and I love tomatoes … just not raw unadulterated … ick! Maybe its a texture thing I dunno. And yet people always think THEIR tomatoes will be the ones I will love … sigh. I think I have finally convinced my friends that their wonderful tomatoes will be wasted on my palate and that they should be enjoyed by someone who appreciates them. ---

I’m a big fan of watermelon and Office Space, but I’m with y’all on the cantaloupe. Bleah. Maybe it’s a generational thing. Was cantaloupe considered really cool in the '50s or something? Does anyone under the age of 65 actually like the stuff? Seems like it’s always the funky oldsters who are trying to get me to eat cantaloupe. And even worst than cantaloupe is… Cantaloupe with COTTAGE CHEESE in it! We really need that barfing smiley. ---

I’ve worked in plenty of different corporate environments. Each one is its own distinct flavor of stupid, but there are certain universally recognizeable elements that they all share, which lends itself to a whole range of humor that’s ripe for the picking. This glut of material is the reason why Scott Adams has been able to write not only almost twenty years’ worth Dilbert strips, but five non-comic-strip books about the subject. Office Space, though…not only does it miss its mark in its attempts to accurately skewer corporate idiocy, it doesn’t even try particularly hard. I ranted about it in greater detail [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=5827149&postcount=37), so I won’t hijack this thread by rehashing it. I will note that I tend to be a tad hyperbolic when discussing it, mostly for my own amusement. I try to make it obvious, but then, on the internet you never know if a random stranger really does work up a homicidal rage over a crappy comedy. As I say in the above-referenced post, I’d hate the movie far less if I didn’t have to hear people deifying it every time the subject comes up. (Actually, the same thing could be said about my feelings on The Beatles, but at least they actually _did_ most of the stuff people credit them with.) ---

Another watermelon hater here. I ODd on it when I was five and redecorated the back seat of my dad’s car. Can’t stand the smell of it to this day. I never really liked cantaloupe until a few years ago. I find it tastes like a mild, creamy orange. I still haven’t bought one, but if I get some on a plate at a restaurant I’ll eat it. I can’t stand honeydew, but my mom loves it, and she hates cantaloupe. We tend to swap fruit when we go out for lunch. Ditto on Seinfeld. It just seemed so stupid to me. I haven’t watched Survivor since the first season. The only reality show I enjoy is Dancing With the Stars. When everyone was praising the Sopranos, I gave it a try. I think I lasted 20 minutes and never watched it again. ---

Cantaloupe is good for you, low in calories, and a big cold slab on a hot humid day can fill you up for a while. But you take your chances in picking out a ripe sweet one, and unless you cut it up and mix with better tasting fruits, you can get sick of it real quick. ---
