Heh. At least I don’t read the menu to people – that used to drive me batshit.

You just reminded me of another thing I do that is just like my mother. Whenever I’m shopping for clothes, I say, “Oh, I really like this outfit. You know, I could make this for so much less than they’re asking for this. And the construction on this is really shoddy.” And then I never, _never_, actually sew the garment.

I blame my mom for making sure I knew how to sew properly. Of course, now I just go ahead and buy the clothes with the excuse that I don’t have a proper serger machine. 😃

My mom was all about the power of the positive attitude.

I had a positive attitude about where she could stick her advice.

Then one day, me and my friend are sitting drinking beer, musing over his sleezebag cheetin’ ex, and he was saying how his life was wrecked and stuff and how it was going to always suck.

And there it came, from me! “It will with that attitude man!”

Maybe she wasn’t so dumb. :smack:

I’m enough like my dad that people miss him much less when I’m around. Apparantly, I remind others of more of his annoying features than his good ones. There wasn’t much worse as a 16 year old, than being told by your dad’s college students that you were just like him - despite my shoulder length hair and his total absence of hair. (He had that disease that causes you to lose all of your hair.)

Even my mom makes comments. A few years back, I was driving her and the slows all to the Jersey shore from her house. We followed one of her innumerable shortcuts to nowhere, instead of just hoping on the damn interstate. I kept asking her which way to turn next, getting frustrated because it became clear she had no idea. After one of my exasperated comments, she looked at Mrs. Slow and commented that I couldn’t be more like my father. The trip clearly was bringing up some not so pleasant memories. Of course, I understand better than anyone how she must have driven my dad nuts…

When I’m out & about with other people in a car I (seemingly at random) read street signs & billboards aloud.

It drives me _ **nuts** _ when my mom does this, and always has, but I do it without even thinking!!!

It drives me crazy because I can never figure out why she’s read the sign aloud - is she expecting some sort of response from her companions? Does she think the sign is funny? Compelling? Interesting? Important? Now my friends are wondering the same thing about _me_! :smack:

Some of her famous quotes - “You want horns, but you’re going to die butt-headed”. “Wish in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills faster” I still use these today - and I secretly crack myself up every time.

My handbag always matches (or at least coordinates) with my shoes.

I write prompt thank you notes (we used to _swear_ my mom would write party thank you notes in the bathroom at the party & drop them in the hostess’s mailbox on the way home 😃
