Yes. Once a SovCit buys into the idea that government is just a mafia or a con, their right to shoot DMV clerks is fully enshrined in their mind just as it was in New Texas. And they can and will act on their deluded ideas. Not many as a percentage, but when enough nutters are running around, it only takes a few to create tragedy. ---

The author was H. Beam Piper and the book is _Lone Star Planet_. For me Piper ranks up there in the top five sci-fi authors. I have three favorite short stories and one of his is one of them. It’s _He Walked Around the Horses_. The other two are _The Man Who Traveled in Elephants_. bu Heinlein, and a story by Spider Robinson, _True Minds_. ---

It’s the random violence that makes me despair sometimes. ---

Apparently she didn’t just shove someone out of her way because she was impatient or something, she crossed the street, shouted obscenities at the vocal coach (an 87-year-old woman) before shoving her to the ground where she hit her head. So it doesn’t sound like random violence, even though no motive has been revealed. She pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter, which sounds like a plea deal down from something like 2nd degree murder. ---

You’re right. I called it “random” because there didn’t seem to be any motive to the crime or connection between the victim and perpetrator. Maybe that’s not accurate. ---

Now that Bronny James on-court cardiac arrest has been linked to a congenital heart defect, regret and embarrassment will undoubtedly cause Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, Elon Musk and the horde of antivaxers who jumped on the story to blame Covid vaccination to apologize, especially to the James family.
