Thank you! So measured on the “Can it fit under a restroom stall door?” scale, the answer is plenty small enough, so locking one in a stall isn’t good enough to abandon it. Measured on the “So obnoxious that killing it is a reasonable decision?” scale, the answer is clear: Schnauzers are almost the most obnoxious breed on Earth. Overall, it seems the woman made the best decisions possible under her challenging circumstances. 😉 ---

Probably, since the body was found in a trash bin. The really bad part is she wasn’t allowed to take the dog to Columbia because she lacked the immunization paperwork the country requires. They’re a highly affectionate breed, too so the person it loved drowned it because it was more convenient. ---

Back when I had dogs, when I’d tell someone I had mini schnauzers, they’d often tell me they didn’t think they’d ever seen a _mini_ schnauzer, to which I’d reply that, in all likelihood, they’ve never seen a standard (or giant) schnauzer. The 15# knee-high dog that you normally see _is_ the mini. ---

Police can be the same way only “every dog is a pit bull” instead of “every pistol is a Glock.” In any event, it likely was a miniature. Hefting 30-pounds of limp body into a trash bin would be quite a job. ---

The Kansas City airport has gender neutral bathrooms with stalls with full coverage doors. Don’t recall if there is any way to latch them from the outside (presumably not). ---

Many of the bolts on full-coverage doors like that are meant to be operated from inside, while displaying a locked/unlocked status outside. Typically there’s a slightly hidden bit of mechanism on tat faceplate where somebody on the outside can move the indicator and throw or un-throw the bolt. Often easier with a tool like a screwdriver to stick in a slot, but a nail file or key or even dime may be all you need. ---

It’s also amazing that during the whole time she was drowning the dog nobody else came into the bathroom and heard her doing it. I’m sure that the dog would have been making a fuss while she was holding it underwater. Unless she had drugged it first. ---

I’ve been in airport men’s rooms where it’s not at all obvious from the outside if the stall is occupied. If the door doesn’t reach all the way to the ground, I’ll look for feet but some system to indicate available rooms would be appreciated. ---

I just reread the story. She apparently drowned the dog, then exited the airport and passed through security (again) before boarding the plane. Guess she was trying to create an alibi? But it’s pretty obvious that she could have taken the dog outside with her, abandoned it somewhere (maybe in the luggage area?), and then still had time to board the plane. She could have called a friend to pick up the dog and the poor beast would still be alive today. ---
