Still definitely weird… Why foxes? I imagine most any sort of animal could be used as bait in that way, but herbivores are much cheaper to raise than carnivores. I guess that maybe the foxes were originally raised for some more distinctively vulpine purpose, like for fox-hunts, and then the owner discovered that there wasn’t much market for that and cut their losses by selling them to anyone who would take them? Or maybe they were being raised for fur (and how much market is there for fox fur?), and the skinned carcasses were a waste product (which would also explain why they were hard to identify)? ---
