It’s shocking that both [ABC News](https://abcnews.com/US/wireStory/pennsylvania-teen-mother-charged-stabbing-death-sons-girlfriend-136191602) and [CBS News](https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/body-camera-footage-karoline-heintz-body-royce-moser/) fail to mention that the victim played soccer _or_ list her position! And they don’t tell us that the school is in Division II! It’s almost as if the “demons mader me do it” excuse and Mom helping cover up the murder weren’t enough to make the story newsworthy for NBC. ---

Huh? Kid wanders away unnoticed, gets into pool & trouble. Some minutes caregiver or other random adult notices kid in pool and retrieves them / their body. How does passive cam footage of an unnoticed kid drowning add up to murder or abuse? It sure is an example of short term child neglect. As is leaving a kid in a car that gets hot & kills them. That stuff (pools & cars) happens all over the country every week. And lots of people object strenuously to criminal charges for honest, if tragic, mistakes. Now, if the footage shows the miscreant sitting there poolside calmly watching the kid drown that’s a whole different situation. But I sure don’t get that meaning from that snip. What am I missing? ---

Truly evil. I have a number of very elderly people in my family right now. A few are in serious need of memory care; one member (my wife’s aunt) is even having what can only be described as hallucinations, and we suspect it might be lingering effects from a fall she had suffered that caused a concussion. I can easily see how erratic behavior caused by mental decline in old age could lead someone with extreme religious beliefs, ignorance, and bigotry (but I repeat myself?) to conclude “demonic possession” and act accordingly. But this is a professional given the responsibility of care for a very vulnerable person, and abusing that is absolutely evil. I’d also say there was more than just one person guilty in this: > The victim’s two roommates tried for over 30 minutes to get help from staff and law enforcement. Why the fuck should it take more than a half hour to get a response from anyone else in a facility? I’m hoping the inevitable lawsuit covers that question.
