Interestingly, recent genetic studies suggest that most health care-associated infections are caused by previously harmless bacteria that patients already had on their bodies before they even entered the hospital. Note that the article title is misleading, as the study covers more than surgical infections. “Research comparing bacteria in the microbiome – those colonizing our noses, skin and other areas of the body – with the bacteria that cause pneumonia, diarrhea, bloodstream infections, and surgical site infections shows that the bacteria living innocuously on our own bodies when we’re healthy are most often responsible for these bad infections when we’re sick.” ---

When I got my shoulder replaced they were adamant that I shower with a prescription anti-bacterial soap for a week beforehand. Worked–no MRSA! ---

Back when I did circumcisions (with nerve blocks!) the joke was that we docs got to keep the tips. Save up enough and you can make a wallet out of 'em. Rub the wallet and it would turn into a suitcase. ---
