I’m reminded of something that took place in Springfield, Illinois a few years ago. The names and dates escape me, but effectively the mayor of the city had claimed to graduate with a Degree in This from the University of That. Well, as it turns out, he left the univesity needing about 3-4 credit hours to get his degree. He claimed that he “forgot” about the missing credits and “assumed” he’d been conferred his degree. Except that, unless I’m sadly mistaken, universities make kind of a big deal about this sort of thing and have a ceremony, and mail you a keepsake, and all that, none of which would have happened to the Lord Mayor. ---
