I just posted this in the DeSantis can’t win the GOP nomination thread in Politics &elections, but it bears repeating here: Today’s episode of “DeSantis is a stupid loser”: Blatantly [using the distinctive Disney font](https://insidethemagic.net/2023/04/desantis-plagiarizes-disney-in-latest-political-move-jnw1/) for MAGA-style hats promoting his presidential run. That font is so clearly Disney’s, he’s begging for a cease-and-desist nastygram at the very least, and since he’ll undoubtedly do the I’m-a-tough-guy response he’ll likely get dragged into court over it on a preliminary injunction motion and then face further legal woes. Has he considered how this will play with corporate types – yanno, the big money guys he needs to fund his campaign – who are keenly aware of the need to protect trademarks? He really is stupid, isn’t he? ---

Much as I hate to be seen as defending DeSanctimonious, [this article](https://www.mekiplaw.com/can-you-trademark-a-font-an-easy-guide/#:~:text=The%20Disney%20Company%20has%20trademarked,to%20theme%20parks%20to%20movies.) cited in your linked article to support the claim that Disney’s font is trademarked specifically says: > **Can You Trademark a Font?** > > No, you cannot trademark a font. A font by itself does not qualify for trademark protection because it is functional. A font by itself does not brand a product or service and does not prevent consumer confusion. Disney’s trademark is in the Disney _name_ in that font, not the font itself. And as long as DeSantis is not using the Disney name (or something confusingly similar) to promote any of the products or services that Disney offers, he is not violating a Disney trademark. IMHO. IANAL. Of course, that won’t stop Disney lawyers from sending him a cease-and-desist letter.
