Let me tell you, though, nothing compares to the smell of rendering plants. And I mean that literally. Sewage, manure, rotting corpses, rotten eggs… You know what all of those smell like. Rendering plants, though, don’t smell like anything you can recognize. You can just tell that, whatever that smell is, it’s very, very wrong. ---

Animal by-product plants in general. One of my brother’s summer jobs was to assist a boiler cleaning service. Whenever he was sent to Eastern By-products, the stench he would bring home was unbearable. Mother would make him remove his clothes in the garage and would send him to the shower immediately. ---

Friends of mine lived a couple of blocks downwind from the Oscar Mayer plant _(“People Killing Pigs For People”)._ This was before they stopped slaughtering and rendering animals in the plant… in the middle of the city! ---

I would never have thought that my father would have a week stomach, but he worked in a meat packing place when he was young. He didn’t slaughter, but he got to stir up a big stew of the materials for pickle loaf, it’s kind of chunky, and he said it would make him sick to his stomach. And he couldn’t help mom when we kids had vomiting spells, because he would too. Yet he worked for thirty years in a Goodyear plant, and when as a child I visited the place I would get a headache, or be sick, because of the sharp and chemical reek of the place. ---

I would not be surprised if there were long term negative effects on his health in an environment like that. Unless you have a peculiar allergy that others don’t share, you should not get sick being in an area. Your body is telling you that it’s an unsafe environment. ---

Back in the day I made a delivery to a place that manufactured liquid deer bait. It reeked so bad it made my eyes water. I could barely stand to be within a 1/4 mile of the place. I went in with watering eyes, running nose, etc. and they were all eating pizza. Bleh, just gross. ---

I saw that the other day and it pissed me off. She’s taking the whole LGBTQ+ (specifically the T) movement and shooting it in the foot. The post-top surgery trans-men can walk around without shirts on, the post-top surgery trans women can’t and that can be confusing, I get it. “Free the nipple” is great for a peaceful protest (time and place), but maybe not at the White House, especially when the person living there is rooting for you. Also, I don’t claim to understand why _anyone_ would be allowed to take their shirt off at the White House, but I hope she understands that this isn’t a trans thing, a cis women can’t walk around WH property topless either. ---

For that matter, I don’t think that in most cases men, cis or otherwise, can walk around the public areas of the White House shirtless.
