I developed a disease due to reflux that almost killed me; my esophagus was completely blocked for more than 24 hours and I couldn’t even drink water. I’ve stopped eating anything spicy and take PPIs every day and haven’t had a serious issue since. But I’m guessing you are looking for an acute situation in an otherwise healthy person. 😉 ---

Same thing happened to me on Christmas Day in 2020 (less the almost killing me bit). If you ever get a definitive diagnosis, please share about it here (it’s apparently not a hiatal hernia). ---

They had to do an endoscopy to my throat and that’s when they saw the ridges that are a sure sign. Luckily in my case the trigger is spicy food, and I haven’t had another case in a couple of years since giving it up. Before I ended up in the hospital, I’d been having intermittent problems swallowing for years, and had no idea what it was. I even thought it was psychosomatic, where my issue was caused by not relaxing enough while I ate. Nope, it’s just a very rare disease. There’s no cure but in my case it’s easily treated. One of those chips might kill me. (What ultimately sent me to the hospital were spicy chicken strips from McDonald’s; it was the last thing I ate before I wasn’t able to swallow anymore.) ---

Been there done that. Not sure if it was that exact trail though. But it’s real close to my house. You can drive to the top of Mt Bross which is a fourteener just on the other side of the valley from my house. I see it from my deck. There is only about a month of the year that it’s free enough of snow to do it. I don’t do that stuff anymore though. Its really scary. If you rolled, you may roll hundreds of feet. ---
