Was it a Jewish contingent that brought this up to those opposing Bruce, or was the use of those words an excuse to shut him down by a group of people that otherwise wouldn’t give Jews the time of day? ---

Doesn’t make a lot of sense, considering that Obama also picked a white man for Veep. iSTM that you still always have to have at least one nominally Christian straight white guy on any US major-party presidential ticket. ---

What really happened IMHO was that the editor heard “controversy about US politician being Indian”, thought of American Indians (probably with a dim recollection of the Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” kerfuffle from several years ago), and went with the feather-headdress caricature. Then was too embarrassed to admit “uh, yeah, I didn’t realize that Harris is actually an India-type Indian-American, not a Native-American-type American Indian”, so made up this “symbol par excellence” bullshit to handwave it away.
