In Centralia, WA, a restaurant agreed to cater a wedding and negotiated a quote, then cancelled it when the couple showed up to pay because they were both women, which apparently they hadn’t figured out at any point before then. I gotta wonder what people like her think when they’re doing shit like that. People drive recklessly when they’re running from the cops, and I kinda get it - they’re often in a bit of a reptilian panic mode, just thinking "I gotta get away, I gotta get away. But this woman? She wasn’t running from the cops, she wasn’t panicking. She figured it was a good idea to get falling-down drunk while serving as a caretaker for her kids, then load her kids into a car and drive as fast as she possibly could. I mean yeah, this is the “Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread” thread, but wow. I gotta think she wins this thread by a long shot. ---

It would not surprise me if she’s an alcoholic. Because addicts often in engage in epically destructive and self-destructive behavior. ---

The article states she had previous impaired driving and substance abuse charges. Her other children were not in the car because they had already been taken away. Addicts make irrational decisions, but I think her record of behaviors suggests more than substance abuse to explain her choices. ---

No… actually addiction is sufficient to explain all of that. Because drugs (including legal ones) can fuck you up that badly. Of course, stupidity is also a possible contributor. I used to work at a clinic specializing in treating addicts. While there are functional addicts (for certain definitions of “functional”) there are also addicts that are complete and total train wrecks due to their addiction. I wouldn’t rule out stupidity, just saying it’s not necessary to explain the situation. ---

I understand your point and also have a great deal of experience with addicts, but with a scope of a few individuals. They were high functioning until they weren’t. I just think the long history suggests other issues /disabilities such as FAS. I also think of addiction as an affliction that does not exist in a vacuum. Either way she is still responsible for her actions (not that you are suggesting she isn’t). ---

The story is told, that a young bride was seeking advice from a priest.
