Reading the article it seems the car went off a low quay / pier structure and entered the water more or less vertically. From any number of fail videos showing yachts being unsuccessfully craned into the water I conclude that even boats don’t boat very well when inserted vertically. I’m a lot more interested in the failure to escape and electric door issues than I was the failure to float part. ---

I had similar mixed feelings when I read that story last year. On the one hand, it was an awful way to die. On the other hand Turtle Mitch and his in laws are as rancid a bunch of corrupt thieves as ever defiled this planet. ---

I don’t think he’s stupid at all. Now the first time someone writes an article about their adventures as a “roadie”, we can poke fun at that person. Although actually reading the article, it looks like the adventure includes saleable memorabilia that might well be as much or worth more than the price of admission. Especially with the functional requirement limiting how much of that memorabilia gets created. ---

I had a high school classmate who was a roadie for KISS for several years. We caught up at our twentieth reunion. He was retiring from the road so he and his wife could have children. I was like, “Dude. You’re forty-eight, and your having your first kid?” He responded, “Hey, at least it’s not Gene Simmons.” ---

I would imagine there are very strict limits as to how much actual work the insurance company would allow a fan-roadie to do. And there would also be very strict limits as to how far Simmons would trust his equipment to guys/gals who, for the most part, are probably going to be badly out-of-shape accountants and insurance salespeople nearing or at retirement age. “Okay, George, carry this bag of cables in and give it to the guy in the red shirt . . . yeah, that’s all. You were a big help!” And then the guy in the red shirt sits the bag down in an out-of-the-way corner because the the cables are just backups they don’t expect to have to use. ---

I see that VIP passes for some concerts today can be $5,000 or more. This is basically an extreme VIP pass. Looking at it from that perspective, it’s not that crazy. It’s cheaper than spending a quarter of a million dollars for a seat on a 90 minute space flight. ---
