I’m not sure right now is the best time to be suggesting pre-emptive imprisonment for crimes someone has not yet committed but might do someday. ---

The primary reason for that is to protect the indigenous people from outside disease. You can plausibly argue that any attack on outsiders is self-defense. Legal under whose law? The Sentinelese have their own ideas about what “law” even is. I suppose since the Sentinel Islands are Indian Territory and (I’m reasonably sure that) murder is illegal in India that the Sentinelese executing people is _technically_ illegal1. 1- The best kind of illegal. ---

But in any case don’t we routinely consider previous persistence at the same crime when considering sentencing? According to the Sentinelese, presumably so. They probably don’t have a written law book, but I expect they have some system for making decisions; what it is we have no way of knowing. And they’re arguably not trespassers, but invaders of a foreign nation.
