I mean, theoretically, college admissions are always conditional on receiving the final transcript from the high school, and a college could choose to rescind admission over this. I don’t think it’s likely, but it could theoretically happen. ---

Depending on where he’s been accepted to, and depending on whether this story is a flash in the pan or the kid turns into some kind of long-lasting (in)famous badminton bird between the two sides of the culture wars, the college _might_ rescind admission just to prevent inviting a no-win controversy into their own little garden. ---

I know someone who didn’t actually receive a high school diploma because at the last minute the school said he hadn’t completed a required gym class, but he ignored that, went onto college and then eventually graduate school and is now a college professor at a state university. ---

Heh, I got a D in PE in my final senior year semester (should have been an F), because I would not knuckle under to the authority of that martinet! But gym counts for nothing. Not in the GPA calculation. Plus, I’d already begun taking uni classes during my senior year and was considered a continuing student for the upcoming year (I never had to do a college application), so no impact there either. ---

His house seems to be built on a rock outcropping, so it’s probably safe. But the neighbors might be in a bind. There’s a lot of clay and quick clay in that region. But there’s also some rock. For many years, I’ve been joking that when the rest of the neighborhood is floating mid-water, we’ll still be sitting tight. We’ll have no idea about how to get down, but at least we won’t be floating mid-water ---

Seems like a high school could have rules banning hate speech, cursing etc. in valedictorians’ speeches, with appropriate penalties for breaching them. I also hope that his scholarship isn’t affected by this. The only way I could imagine it would be is if the scholarship explicitly required that the recipient be the valedictorian. ---

Well, Notre Dame is run by a Catholic order (the Congregation of the Holy Cross), and we know if there’s one thing Catholic institutions excel at, it’s closing ranks when accused of terrible behavior towards children. ---

One fond memory of my time at a Benedictine university (Go Johnnies!) was when Father Michael, the school president, shut down a parent at a forum by noting “We are not a Jesuit institution”. The parent was basically complaining that the school didn’t have bed checks every night. ---

Per Wikipedia, he also believes that male schoolteachers are mostly pedophiles who are “grooming” kids by acknowledging the existence of gay people. So the craziness isn’t limited to Israel. ---
