The tool that the firefighter said would take five seconds was a “spreader”, which presumably refers to something like that.

That was from memory, it was a LONG time ago! The memorable thing to me was that if a firefighter, or anyone else, had a big honking deconstruction tool, a lock isn’t going to keep them out.

A tech bro in San Francisco organized a “March for Billionaires” this weekend in opposition to the proposed wealth tax.
Literally _tens_ of people showed up, with trolls and mockers outnumbering the people who were there earnestly.

That neighborhood is also colloquially known as “Specific Whites”, which probably gives you an idea of the demographics.

Unrelated, but I grew up in a city called Whitefish Bay, which was often referred to as White Folk’s Bay…it wasn’t inaccurate.

Growing up, one of my neighbors had one of those lawn jockey statues - a “Jocko”. It was up the driveway near the house, so I never really got a good look at it. This was a nice residential neighborhood, but not an inordantly wealthy one. The couple were older white folks - of course.
I didn’t really understand the implications for a long time - it was just a thing some people did like birdbaths or pink flamingos.
I’m not sure if the couple even intended it as racist, or if it was just a prop to try to embellish their sense of wealth. Something that was a common thing for the wealthy to display when they were young and thus they were copying to pretend they were higher status than they were. Or they could have been raging racists. I wouldn’t know. We didn’t interact other than to occasionally try to sell whatever fundraising products we were told to push.
