I believe the word in question is “baba” which does mean “father” but can also be used in the sense of “Our Father who art in heaven”. That makes sense. The only language I know pretty well aside from English is Japanese, and there are some Japanese terms that I understand but are difficult to translate perfectly into English. And I’m sure it goes the other way also; consider how many words there are in English that have a completely different meaning depending on context (like the simple word “fly”); a direct translation into another language might be difficult, especially if you are translating word-by-word. ---

And millions of people of Turkish origin who are naturalized Germans, some 3rd or even 4th generation. I don’t know if Faisal/Faycal is also common in Turkish, though. But I as a German didn’t bat an eye when I read that name. It’s like asking “Felipe Lopez, wtf kinda American name is that?” ---

At the time, we had one taco truck in the entire county, and when I went to Albertson’s and asked the meat cutter for thin-sliced beef for carne asada, he didn’t even know what carne asada WAS. Now we’ve actually got a 'Berto’s clone here in town that serves the exact same kind of Mexican food I grew up on. I was reminded how comparatively good I have it when I went to Chicago a few years ago and ordered a carne asada burrito from Doordash. They put lettuce in it. LETTUCE! In a burrito! Who on earth wants hot wilted lettuce? Now there’s some stupid MFers. ---

Ooh, sorry, I never think about sarcasm tags, and in that context I never thought to be taken so wrongly. But in theses times, all is possible. So for the record: I wanted to express it exactly the way @LSLGuy interpreted it. To put it another way: Mustafa Yilmaz as a German name is almost as common as Thomas Müller or Felipe Lopez as American name. And that’s a good thing. Hope that clears it up. ---
