Personally, I wish more “celebrities” would keep their political views to themselves. Unless someone is knowledgeable about how a candidate would affect the country, or their state, or whatever area they are running for, their opinion is irrelevant. The political opinions of an actor, a singer, a sports player, or whatever does not impress me in the least. ---

Yeah, I can see this. He’s a wrestler turned actor: His political views shouldn’t be considered relevant in the first place, except to the same extent that any individual voter’s are. And by making his views public, he hurts his livelihood. Much better, from his point of view, to just keep on quietly voting. ---

He’s also talked about running for office. Not that I think that’s a good idea, but if he’s going to run, he needs to be able to take a stand for something. I’ve lost any respect I might have had for Johnson, because it seems that the only reason he regrets supporting Biden is the push back he got from the other side, and the damage it may have done to his career. I am a tour guide and I do take cruise ship passengers around my city - via one of the companies that provide tours to the cruise line. Quite often I get requests - ‘Oh, just drop us off here’ (they want to spend more time at the gardens/museum etc). I have a script that I _ **must** _ tell them re the departure time of the ship and that it will not wait, and get their reply that they have understood. (I can provide some specific information about public transport/taxis etc - but I must say some certain phrases). And yes - if the 4-hour bus tour is delayed or held up by traffic/road diversions etc, - no, we cannot extend or fudge the time. Sorry - you’ll have to come back some other time to see the art gallery we missed. ---

I was at a nice bar restaurant when a man made advances on a woman that did not appreciate it, and said so. Four of us escorted that ass out of the bar. Was playing pool at a bar with my cousin (had been years since we did that) and a guy kept hitting on her. She politely declined. But figured out I was her cousin. So, I guess ‘fair game’. I finally had to stand up when he drew near. Really? Get a fucking clue, will you? I won’t apologize for these assholes. Cause, that’s just what they are - assholes. They don’t represent any decent person and should not be apologized for or given any excuse. Kudos to the people that took that ass out for making fun of a person with a disability. ---

Just assume any unexplained acronym that context suggests is referring to a human is simply someone’s alternate name for trump. That’s not an ideal situation, but it’s really likely to be the correct assumption. In my own case, I have banished all use of the word other than to refer to the disgraced ex-president and I refuse to uppercase his name. To the point that I will restructure a sentence to ensure his name is not the first word. ---

Except Marjorie Taylor Green has just as many, Boebert has plenty as well. Hell, it took me a good couple of days after first noticing “Gym” to figure it who that was (just “Gym” not “Gym Jordon”), same for any reference to an individual Howler Monkey or the Howler Monkeys or the Howler Monkey Caucus. But, again, I’m not asking anyone to change, just maybe be aware that if you use an acronym or a made up name, not everyone is going to know who you’re talking about. ---

Agreed. I find it irritating too. I was sharing my work-around in hopes somebody else might find it useful. Another idea I just had: In any politics or current events thread whenever we see an unfamiliar proper name, nickname, or acronym, just substitute “some frothing deplorable” and that’s good enough. They’re all interchangeable performing reality tv star wannabes with terrible ideas and no brains. Whoch _particular_ deplorable it is probably doesn’t much matter to the flow of the story. Sad but all too true. ---

One of my ambitions in life is to coin a new word that gets picked up by others, like “Godwin’s Law”, or “cow-orkers”. My cousin and I just call him ‘It’. As in ‘Guess what it did today’? But it’s tiring and overwhelming. It commits so many unbelievable acts every damn day. It’s impossible to keep up. It’s the new normal. We went through the alphabet once with a word association thing. A stands for… B stands for. It was very easy. Not sure what we had for ‘Z’, I would have to think about it. ---
