The increasingly Byzantine drama continues in Lexington/Fayette County (KY): After the lawyer for embattled schools superintendent Demetrus Liggins threatened to “name names” unless his client was reinstated in his job, the school board essentially told him to stick that demand where the sun don’t shine. This unseemly wrangling is an unwelcome distraction from national accolades awarded to the Horse Capital of the World a.k.a. Athens of the West, including a spot in Livability’s 2026 100 Best Places to live in the U.S., which among other things cites Lexington’s “top-rated” public schools. 😀 ---

If this guy does have some actual evidence of malfeasance by someone on the school board, he should have come forward with it at the time. He can try to portray himself as a bold reformer now, but that doesn’t excuse him from withholding information of wrongdoing that would have been in the public interest to reveal. ---

This is an old story, but it just came to my attention today, and I’m honestly not sure if this was stupid or evil, but I’m leaning towards the former. In 2013, a Chinese businessman decided to pay a hitman 2 million yuan (roughly $280,000 at the time) to take out a professional rival of his. Except the hitman didn’t want to get his hands dirty, so he paid another hitman half of the money to to the deed. Except _that_ hitman didn’t want to get his hands dirty either, so he paid another hitman about a third of that amount to do the job. And THAT hitman didn’t want to do it either, so he hired another hitman to do the job for about 10% of what the original cost of the hit had been. And then THAT hitman paid half of the sum to a fifth hitman to do the job. And that hitman decided he wasn’t getting paid enough to kill a man, so he contacted the intended victim and proposed that they fake his death and take pictures of him bound and gagged so that he could send them upstream to the original client in exchange for payment. Decades ago there was a Sunday _Wizard of Id_ strip where the Duke is reporting to the King, “The scout is reporting an enemy buildup on our northern border!” The King replies, “That’s important news! Give the scout this reward,” handing the Duke two sacks of gold. The reward gets smaller and smaller as it passes down the chain of command until a single coin is given a page. The page then tells the scout, with a couple arrows sticking out of his back, “The King salutes you!” ---

Made by a Chinese production company with all Chinese actors and set in China. About a convoluted series of killings. Looks like it’s _Liquidators_ all the way down. ---
