Eh, if the woman had responded by getting back up and shoving the man, and they ended up in an all-out brawl over who got to use the Great and Mighty Club, then… Well, OK, it probably would have still been stupid, but it wouldn’t have been so offensive that I’d swear off ever using any of the company’s products.

[Oh, my God! Muslim girls are getting Muslim awards! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!](https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/girl-scouts-respond-muslim-badge-195320812.html)

> The [Girl Scouts](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/girl-scouts) of the USA pushed back against criticism this week after [social media](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/social-media) posts about faith-based Islamic badge programs sparked online controversy.
>
> The backlash followed posts by White House correspondent and _War Room_ co-host Natalie Winters claiming the Girl Scouts offered “[Muslim](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/muslim) badges” that could be earned by learning about Islamic practices, including the pillars of [Islam](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/islam) and visits to mosques.
>
> “Mosque-based programs operate in Sacramento, Naperville, Long Island, Virginia, Maryland, Brooklyn, San Diego, and more—embedding prayer, hijab rules, Ramadan, Islamic education and mosque outreach into Girl Scouting,” Winters posted Monday on X.
>
> The programs are tied to religious recognition awards administered by outside organizations and have existed for years, the Girl Scouts said in a statement posted to social media.
>
> “There’s misinformation circulating online today about Girl Scouts and religion,” the statement from the organization read.
>

Our national My Promise, My Faith pin invites girls to connect the Girl Scout Law with their own faith. Any other faith-based patches are developed by independent faith organizations, not Girl Scouts of the USA,” the statement continued, adding, “Girl Scouts is proudly for every girl.”

And when shown facts, she immediately apologized. Oops! I thought today is Opposite Day. Here’s the bigot’s reaction to fact.

> [@](#):

> Winters doubled down on her stance following the Girl Scouts’ statement, saying in a post on X, “Girl Scouts accused me of spreading ‘misinformation’ today. This is modern feminism’s pathetic endpoint: Girl Scouts defending Islam’s incorporation into its programs— as Islamist regimes treat women as second-class citizens and stone them to death.”
>
> “GSUSA has not identified one false sentence. Calling documented facts ‘misinformation’ is not a rebuttal,” she said in another [post.](https://x.com/nataliegwinters/status/2092344619258310914)

> Do you have a cite for this? I’m a golf junkie (playing, watching, reading), and I’ve seen no such catastrophic prediction.

You are right and I am wrong.

I was guilty of relaying very obsolete news from the last few years pre-COVID. With a side order of regional chauvinism. Here in SoFL we’ve had a bunch of golf course condo / HOA communities either give or sell their course to the local city / county to convert it to public use because they don’t have the player headcount to support the maintenance costs. When most condo / HOA members don’t play golf, they’re unlikely to be happy about a sizeable fraction of their monthly condo / HOA fees going to maintenance of a golf course they don’t use. Whether from lifelong disinterest in golf or having aged out of being able to play.

The other thing going on around here is golf condo / HOA communities selling the course to a housing developer who threads a whole new neighborhood of streets & houses or apartments into the footprint of the old course.

So locally around here we see courses disappearing, not being built.

In contrast, Google AI informs me golf is really doing excellently these days. An interesting and perhaps ominous development is that fully 40% of all golf participants in 2025 play only on simulators or gamified driving ranges like TopGolf; they don’t play traditional courses at all. IMO that’s the outdoor counterpart to _Bowling Alone_. If your business is selling clubs and accesories, you don’t much care where the players use them. Conversely, if your business is building and maintaining golf courses you sure do.

Which now makes the collaboration between Callaway and Good Good Golf and their attempted “edgy” ad make a bit more sense. Aiming for the irreverent youth market, poking fun at the stodgy traditionalist white-shoe market. They were just totally tone deaf about acceptable forms of irreverence; especially for young people.

Perhaps; the sense I get is that those are popular golfing activities for groups, as well as people going by themselves.

There had been a steady decline in the number of golf courses in the U.S. after the Great Recession in 2008, which also coincides with the end of the Tiger Woods-fueled golf boom. That decline continued until a few years ago, but the number of courses has stabilized (source below).

OTOH, as I understand it, municipal courses and less-expensive public courses are becoming harder to find, and going out to play a round of golf at a course seems to be an expensive outing in many areas now.
