[checks calendar] Methinks we are overdue for a **Chief Pedant** mention here. [Classic concern trolling on climate change](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=836619), people do call him out for both that and his use of a loaded pejorative and for ignoring recent posts in other recent threads. What gets me is just how much of a broken record these pooters always end up becoming. If you want a primo argument against free will they’d be your Exhibit A. ---

I think he genuinely believes that black people are inherently inferior in intelligence, on average. I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than being a troll. ---

In short, as far as TPTB are concerned, it all depends on how arguments are presented. If one genuinely but abrasively presents one’s argument, one is indistinguishable from a troll. ---

IMO … There are certainly posters in this thread who hold to that definition of “troll”. AIUI, that’s not the definition used by most mods most of the time. It’s also pretty clear the mods are not tightly standardized on this point. ---

The problem is that neither the mods nor we ourselves can tell what the actual convictions and purposes are of any given poster, perhaps especially the ones who spout the most offensive stuff. It’s a judgment, and not always an easy one. I think that’s why some apparent trolls are given a longer rope than others.
