I just expect that, if this were a real question from someone who had legitimately never heard of this site before, they would have asked this question on a site devoted to this sort of thing. Nothing about this site suggests it’s a good place to ask a question about how a parent should handle their child being LGBT. It does, however, resemble a common troll tactic: the innocent person asking for advice about an innocent but controversial question. Still, I admit I’ve never seen them come back and thank people like that. Normally, you lean into the most negative posts. And, if you bring a sock (as I would suspect that new poster to be), you have them disagree to get a fight going. It still just seems incredibly odd. If not a troll, then my next guess is sock: as in, someone who has posted here before but got banned. At least then they’d have reason to think such questions should be asked here. ---

Actually, I just googled ‘my daughter says she is bisexual boards’ and a 2004 thread from this board was the 5th response on the list. If I add ‘message’ before boards, the new thread is #2. So if you’re looking for a place to discuss it and your google search asks about message boards, this place is near the top of the list. Of course, having done that, I’d probably be seeing some interesting ads if I wasn’t using an adblocker. ---

Your troll analysis is fair, but you forgot the last step. You need to consider the relative IQ of the poster. If it’s text speak, +1 point for troll. If it’s relatively well written, then you have to assume that someone intelligent enough to express himself probably has better things to do than troll a board. So you have to carry a -1 to the troll equation. I’m putting this at -1 Troll so far. IE, not trolling. If you google the first 10 words of the OP and it hits at other boards, then etc… I’m betting Coleen is seeking anonymity for herself and her cause and is perfectly happy asking a question she might not ask elsewhere. ---

That brings up (begs?) this question: what is the def of a sock? I always thought of a sock puppet as a concurrent alter ego, for the purposes of a) being able to argue both sides to get the fight going (as **BigT** hints at) or b) to bring reinforcements to “your side.” Does it also mean a reincarnated poster? should there be a separate term for them? Reincarnies? Rebirthers? Res-erections? Illegal transmigrants? mc ---

Sad to say, but if you’re frantically registering to a message board to ask and questions anonymously of perfect strangers on how you should treat your child, then I’d say you need more help than can be provided in a message board thread. ---

So that **Colette** thread was progressing relatively well - a few skeptics, a few jokes, the usual bewildering input from **Urban Redneck** , but by and large the responses were relatively supportive and even praised the OP for not reacting overly negatively to the news about her daughter…and then a familiar yet recent joiner dropped a big old turd into the punchbowl… ---
