And, conversely, any other policy opens up the “it’s just satire” excuse for all kinds of nasty comments that are only appropriate in the Pit, and puts an unnecessary burden on the Mods to make a subjective call about whether something offensive really amounts to satire. ---

I think **Asimovian’s** notes were referring to satire/parody _on that particular hot button topic_, not necessarily to any or all satire/parody. It’s long been a rule that if you want to make fun of another poster by parodying his thread or post, that goes in the Pit with a link to the post. Actually, posts like that are useful. In case anyone says something along the lines of gun nuts not necessarily being stupid, just having different values or something, you can say, “Oh, yeah? Allow me to cite some postings that will quickly change your mind”. And then you can point them to the brilliant writings of **JBGUSA**. **JBGUSA** is a useful idiot that way. Utterly oblivious to his own raving stupidity, his various screeds instantly discredit whatever position he’s trying to take, imbuing his side of the argument with a stench that would nauseate a hog-nosed skunk seven miles downwind. ---
