Real Madrid lead Barcelona 1-0 at half time. Great goal by Alaba. Barcelona were the better team but once again they lack cutting edge up front. ---

Gavi, Pedri, de Jong, and Fati are all potential superstars; 3 super young and 1 fairly young. If rebuilding goes well, in a couple years they might have a heck of a team. ---

I think this is the first time PSG have had their complete first choice 11? Haven’t really clicked yet so it’ll be interesting to see this game. Marseilles should be up 1-0 3 minutes in. ---

Barcelona lost 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano. They are a team who got promoted from the second division last season. They now sit in 4th place and the winning goal was scored by Radamel Falcao. Once considered one of the world’s best players. He is having a twilight season so far. ---

Bayern got slashed 3-0 by Mönchengladbach in the first half of the second round of the DFB cup. As some of you may know, I’m a Gladbach fan, and I’m euphoric, but with Bayern you never know. They are always able to score three or four goals in one half. Second half beginning now. ETA: Embolo!!! 4-0! ETA2: It’s unbe-fucking-lievable! Embolo once again, 5-0! ---

Wow! I thought for a moment Bayern were playing their reserve team because it is a cup match but having checked it is their main team. That’s a glorious sight for them to be destroyed like that. ---

Yes, not at all a reserve team, they had their best team imaginable started. I’ve never seen such a “WTF is happening?” match other than Germany’s 7-1 against Brazil at the 2014 WC. And it’s over. The ref had mercy with Bayern and ended the game without extra time at 90:00 min. End score Mönchengladbach-Bayern 5-0! I’m still baffled. By the way, that’s the first time that Gladbach ever won against Bayern in the DFB cup in the eighth game they played in that competition. Note that Gladbach and Bayern have an old, traditional rivalry dating from the seventies, when they were the dominating clubs in Germayn and Bayern won the Bundesliga four times and Gladbach five times. Since the eighties, Bayern won a truckload of championships, whereas Gladbach declined somehow and never won a title again, but Gladbach-Bayern still is a true classic of German football. ---

And Manchester City lose their first League Cup match in five years. This means there will be a new winner of this competition for the first time since 2017. West Ham have beaten them. Question: if David Moyes had never been Manchester United manager previously would he be considered as a possible replacement for Solskjaer? He has done an amazing job with West Ham and has done it without really spending a lot in transfers.
