On profanity against non-posters [[edited thread title]]

  1. Lamb of God is the opposite of Wolf-god. It’s my secret identity. Shhhh.
  2. I’m sorry, I’m a trifle deaf in my left ear. In the future, all questions of this nature must be submitted in writing to the relevant offices.
3)Lost spoiler here: No–I would have appreciated a Judeo-Christian afterlife, but I would have been satisfied with a Hindu, Muslim, or even Egyptian afterlife. I canNOT support or approve of any mishmash of afterlife that’s based on that stupid COEXIST bumper-sticker and in a story context the theologies are mutually incompatible. The writers should have the balls to have a point of view. People who are “middle of the road” deserve to be run over. Take a stance!

    Um…of course, I’m not speaking Ex-Cathedra here.

Neither do I. Then it occured to me that I had filed that line in my mind from Miller’s post that I linked to in the OP.

My sincere appologies to Marley23 and tomndebb, and thankyou Gfactor for patiently helping this old man recover from his illusion.

A sheep in wolf’s clothing.

Coincidentally, my butt hurts! http://navid.radiantempire.com/pub/pix/Lustiges/MyButtHurts_Fullpic_1.jpg

See you in another life, brother.

No problem. I wondered about that. I use the “No warning issued” thing a lot, and I guess **Miller **probably does too.

Mmm! Feels good to wield that power, nay?

Oh, fucking christ in a sidecar! Would it have killed you to have specified that it was a Lost spoiler you were posting?

Fucking think!

Sorry. I’ve edited the post to make that clear.

I think it worked in Xena/Hercules, though. And it’s pretty interesting in both Gargoyles and Stargate–granted, those last two really don’t deal with the [afterlife] as much as the myths surrounding it.

(Small spoiler between the brackets, highlight to see.)

Ah, yes, the power of restraint.

Really? Are we at the point where “xxxx xxx” is offensive and warnworthy? I agree with you in that it meant “fuck you” (it will be hilarious if you thought something else and here I am agreeing in how obvious it is that it means something else), but would you really issue a warning or any other flavor of mod action over an insult that is not? Didn’t we have something similar about the “snugglypuppy” bull a while ago (I have no recollection of what it stands for, by the way). How was that handled then? Where people who used it assumed to be meaning the “secret meaning” and modded accordingly?

I mean, I honestly couldn’t care less about any of the issues at play here. Just curious about the moddability of “xxxx xxx” because I can see that one running out of hand real pronto.

I don’t believe there is a set rule (beyond the “don’t be a jerk” rule), and any moderation would be contextually based. In this case, it was clearly intended as a dig against a moderator and clearly intended as a violation of the intent of the rule by gaming the “letter of the law”. That is jerkish behavior.

If I were moderator, I would have done like Marley23 did - gave notice of awareness of the intent to circumvent the rules by weaseling and a clear statement it is not appreciated. Then continued violation would earn a warning.

xxxxx xxx for your response then.

This seems like a place to ask the question: Is it alright to lewdly insult companies like Microsoft, Dell, BP, etc…?

I’ll ask, too. Is this all right? No?

This is the post:

The answer in The Pit is yes.

I don’t think companies have feelings or even an anthropomorphic sense of honor which might be subject to insult. I might be wrong about that, but either way, in The Pit, it’s fine.

Thank you. How about non-lewd insults to companies, when not in The Pit?

That’s going to depend a lot on context and the forum in question. It would seldom be appropriate in General Questions, which is the other forum I moderate. In MPSIMS, it might be ok more of the time. I’ll see if I can get some other moderators to comment.

Depends on the company, and it depends on the insult – if it were too nasty, I might suggest you take it to the Pit, but if it’s general grumbling, not a problem.

It also depends on what the thread is, of course – hijacking a kitty pix thread with complaints about those assholes at Purina might also be a problem.
