<Whether…words> sorry
Assume for argument that Jesus did indeed say those things. Would you think He was psychotic?
FIrst off, (this may be an old topic but i just finished reading this whole thing) I dont think that when god wrote the bible through man, he intended to explain everything to man, he just wanted to provide some instructions on how to live with each other without destroying each other, hence it was irrelevant to reveal things like “the earth is round” etc. Furthermore, since the stories in the bible werent written down until long after they occurred/were first told, they probly changed alot and have alot of other poeples beliefs/thoughts intertwined in them. Secondly, the bible, i do believe, states that god made several attempts before he got to man, and who knows maybe he kept going after we ate the forbidden fruit. Now, getting back to the original question, wouldnt it be interesting if E.T. came to us and said “Look, all these hundreds of planets weve visited each have a religion with a creater of some sort, none are exactly the same but they each have the same basic messages, so maybe its not how its said, but what is said” Because personally, i think thats prolly what would happen, since its kinda what happens with most human religions. lemme know if outta line.
I woul’nt consider him psychotic at all! its a pretty ground breaking concept,
not out of line at all mate! I dont know if anyone has read claude rael’s book “the messege given to me by extra terrestials”, its pretty whacky, interesting to read, but in summary i think that raelian movement is a scam, but anyhow, raelians believe that we are the creation of a race of humanoid ets from another planet, and that the bible was written by man with their help, so that the creators will not be forgotten.
the book systematically lays out significant events in the bible and write what they “really” signify. for instance noahs ark was an operation to collect gene data from two of every species on the planet so that they could be re created after the great flood, and i believe there is a whole chapter dedicated to ezekiel and his flying saucers. sounds crazy but is really interesting to read.
As hoot pointed out, the bible states that god made previous attempts to create civilised life on other planets and so on, raelians believe that the creators did likewise and claude rael quotes them as saying that which ever planet realises and accepts their true creators first will be granted eternal life(scientifically advanced ofcourse)and many other neat things, the ones that dont get their shit together will most likely be exterminated. this to me raises questions about creators, is god like these creators an egotistical saddist freak just flyin around randomly experimenting with life, and then when he fucks it up he turns and runs to leave chaos in full swing, this always leaves me baffled.
I woul’nt consider him psychotic at all! its a pretty ground breaking concept,
That depends entirely on whether it is the atoms or the spirit that is real. If the atoms are real, then God is clearly evil at worst or impish at best. But if the spirit is real, then what is played out here is for a greater purpose and existence.
On first blush, it seems to be a given that the atoms are real until you realize that you are confirming the existence of atoms with — other atoms! Your eyes, your brain, the graphs and charts that you examine to convince yourself of the existence of something out there are tautologically, being themselves made of atoms, a part of what you’re attempting to prove. It’s the materialist equivalent of “the Bible is true because the Bible says it is true” — that is, the atoms exist because the atoms say they do.
Jesus said that you cannot find His kingdom by looking here and there, but only by looking within yourself:
Luke 17:20-21
interesting concept lib, quite an eye opener.
! i guess man (at least in my lifetime) is not evolved enough to find the answers he asks.
I guess for me, on the the potential influence of ets…
if they land and tell us that they have never had any contact with such religions or of bibles or anything of the sort(or have disproved all prehistoric beliefs, i think it may weaken the beliefs of man, because if god created the universe why was anything outside of the earth mentioned in the bible.(because man had no knowledge of it).and why did god not leave any word of the creator to these beings, especially if they where a more advanced and therefore a more important creation than human kind. this would be even more substantial if we were visited by more than one species from different worlds who all had no belief system like ours. if god created the universe and everyting in it why only leave a message thousands of years ago on earth. the only way man could still believe in god after that would be to say that god had chosen not to tell his most advanced and intellegent creations of his existence,(why would god do this), Or they could say that god only has a lease on the milky way and is contracted by some authority not to spread word beyond human kind, and even though the other creations(the ets)were far superior in intellegence, man held the true knowledge of the word of god. in fairness, if we tried to explain this to the ets they would probably mock our prehistoric beliefs and unevolved arrogance. for me this instance , i feel, that man will be put in his place, and generations and generations from that instance, future mankind will look back in amazement at the beliefs we once institutionalised so deep in our society, just as we study the sun worshippers of the ancient world. on the other hand ets could land bearing the original copie of their own bible!!
this thread is cracking me up…
I am reading it basicly as:
You people are stupid for beliveing in god! not smart like us who belive in aliens.
plus the ironic wish that vastly superior beings would come down from heaven and disprove religion for them.
