Not in the news. It’s a local place. Well, kinda. This is a very rural area. The state news outlets rarely come down here. The surprise is why this family of vietnamese entrepreneurs ever came here. Can’t be that much business available to them. I’m glad they’re here. I likes me some Pho. ---

Reality check. The word pho does not match the pronunciation of foe. It’s closer to faw, or to my ear a cross between faw and fu (with a short u as in the first two letters of fu\*k). Here’s a [**sound clip**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgX2q9WPoqo). A Hmong co-worker tried and tried to get me to pronounce it right. As long as I can order it, I’m happy. If they pretend to misunderstand me, I’ll just get a bahn mi instead. ---

Right. I cringe when I hear the “foe” pronunciation. “Fuh”, with the “u” of “tug”, is what I say. It’s not exactly correct but closer than “foe”. There’s a Vietnamese restaurant called “Pho Kim Long” whose name I found quite amusing when I learned the correct pronunciation of “pho”. ---

I had a Vietnamese friend who taught me the correct way to pronounce the name “”Ng”. Went into a new patient room and introduced myself to a Ms. Ng pronouncing it that way … to be corrected … with some annoyance … that here it is said “Ing”. The staff expects it to said “foe” here I think. ---
