I’m sorry, but I’m opposed to any sort of crotch patch on principle. The thing with patches is that they have edges. And the thing about edges, especially edges in that particular area, is that they chafe. Believe me, I know. My mom was a great believer in patches when I was growing up.

What I need is jeans that come already nicely reinforced. They have steel-toed shoes, how about steel-crotched pants? Though, come to think of it, that might be even less comfortable than the chafing. Especially on a cold morning.

There’s only one solution. It’s time for us to go back to codpieces. I’d love to see the looks on my coworkers faces if I showed up tomorrow in mauve tights and a gigantic codpiece. And a plain old T-shirt.

I don’t get it. Trying to recall if I’ve ever had a hole in the crotch of my pants, and I really don’t think I ever have. Don’t think my kid has either, come to think of it. Holes in the knees, sure, holes in the rear, of course…just how do you get a hole in the crotch?

The trick is to use a very large patch, this keeps edges out of the sensitive areas.

Unless the sensitive area is very large-----

Not going commando should help reduce chafing.
