I made a ball out of all the extra rubber bands on my desk while waiting for the pages to load.
Not that I’m hoping it willhappen, but if the boards are slow again, I have plenty of paper clips to occupy my time.

How exactly would one make a ball out of rubber bands, anyhow? I’ve wondered that for a while now.

I read the newspaper at the same time while waiting for the pages to load.
Other times the slow board has come in handy for food, drink or bathroom breaks.

Yeah Bottle. My production has gone way up. Click the message board, administer some claims. Click a forum, administer some claims. Click an a thread, administer some claims.
I’ve also got these short people in my house. After talking to them for a bit while waiting for a page to load, I’ve come to realize that these short people are actually my children. And there’s a man here too. He claims to be my husband.

Well, since you asked, when I’m bored and happen to have a bag of rubber bands sitting around, I start with a Superball or some other such object and just start wrapping rubber bands around it. It’s very amusing. 🙂

It gave me time to set up my own Board, thus sparing the SDMB more than 1100 posts in one week! Thus, I’m saving the SDMB in my own way - diverting posts and reads from it to the UnaBoard. 🙂

I multi-task: SDMB in one browser window, email or a game in another, and some form of schoolwork in Word or Printshop. I’ve actually done my participatory government homework lately!

Failing a superball, you can wrap rubber bands around a crumpled up piece of aluminum foil.

I read all of _Nine Princes in Amber_ and a few chapters of _The Guns of Avalon_ (both by Roger Zelazny) while waiting for forums or threads to load. I also respond to emails while loading threads and sometimes play [Twenty Questions](http://www.20q.net).

I’ve always started rubber band balls just by using very small bands initially & looping the first one around (or tying a knot in it), then doubling the others around it. I’ve just realised - if I have time to discuss the best way to make a rubber band ball, I have _way_ too much time on my hands!

Slow board gives me a whole nuther way of handling it. Figure out something & it’ll run fast for ya too.
Wasn’t it strange the guy worked on the server a week back, it got real fast & now its kinda slow. Anyway from 7 to 9am PDT its pretty fast.

The rubber band must have unwound. Fear not, I have extras (currently working on my second rubber band ball, and attaching it to twelve-foot long paper clip chain).

So whadddaya think of Zelazny? Obviously you don’t dislike him if you went on to book 2, but how does it grab you so far?
