That routine isn’t even that funny, and I would argue that his Baseball vs Football routine is even more famous (just not as controversial), so Carlin is definitely out as a one hit wonder. And I thought of A&C as the main one hit wonders of comedy because #1 even though I am familiar with other stuff they did, that’s always the first thing I think of with them (and many time have heard them described as the Who’s On First guys) and #2 how much of their other stuff still gets mentioned/played 50 years later? Who’s On First will never go away, but pretty much any other routine they did (especially if you just mention their name) will be met with a blank stare by people who weren’t familiar with them when they were performing. It’s in the same way that Twisted Sister and KISS were HUGE when they were in their prime, but now are mainly known for We’re Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock & Roll All Night and everything else they did is an afterthought or totally forgotten about except by their fans. ---

Richard Jeni for his over the top “When I was you age…” legs? food? [Richard Jeni} You kids today have it so easy. We were stumps when I was a boy - lint sucking, coal mining stumps, that melted because it was so hot. It was 4000 degrees in the winter when I was a boy. You’d be standing there talking to your sister, turn around and there’d be a pile of goo with a hat on it where your sister used to be, and you couldn’t even clean it up. Why? you ask. Because we had no cleaning products. No “Fantastik”. We had a similar product called “Not Bad” which didn’t really clean anything, but would just make a streak so people knew you made the effort. It was the best we could do… It was one damp dark miserable day after another… but… We were thankful for what we had. [/Richard Jeni] ---

When Carlin died, EVERY station played Seven Words with the seven words beeped out. I think the baseball vs. football bit is hysterical, but it’s mostly in how Carlin does it. ---
